Expanse

The Expanse is the word used to designate everything that is outside of Domhan proper. It looks like a permanently-moving black mass, filled with thousands of tiny lights and intermittent flashes of color, not entirely dissimilar to firework displays or aurora borealis.
The origin of the Expanse itself is unknown; it is well known that Ako was born from it, and it used the Expanse in order to create the Emberi. This is no metaphor; the Expanse is arcane in nature, and therefore spellcasters all over Domhan use it to cast spells. See Magic in Domhan for more information on that subject.
When Ako made Domhan, it made sure to provide enough protection for its creation, and refused to expose it directly to the Expanse. Therefore, the sky is blue in Domhan; and while its two suns are up in the skies, it is still blue. At night, however, when Ako's Eyes turn into moons, the Expanse is visible, providing spectacular sights for any onlooker.
