History
The Bestonia Conglomerate, now known as the Heart of Commerce, was born from necessity and ambition in the aftermath of Ragnarok, a cataclysmic event that reshaped the world of Domhan over 300 years ago. Before this transformation, the region was divided among three monopolies: Piccone D'oro, which controlled all mining and material extraction; Fabbrica del Futuro, which dominated manufacturing; and Ala Di Bestus, the overseer of imports and exports. While initially competitors, the devastation of Ragnarok and the ensuing chaos forced these entities to ally. Pooling their wealth, influence, and resources, they purchased the region from the failing government and established the Bestonia Conglomerate, a centralized hub of trade, innovation, and progress.
Under the governance of Ala Di Bestus, Bestonia experienced rapid modernization. Recognizing the potential for adventurers and trade to drive economic growth, Ala Di Bestus had already established The Adventurer's Guild before Ragnarok. Following the cataclysm, they rebranded it as The Guild to encompass a broader spectrum of people, including artisans and hunters, creating a structured environment for employment and security. Innovations such as airships and, later, the Runic-train, fueled unprecedented growth and connectivity, allowing Bestonia to emerge as a dominant force in global commerce. While the conglomerate’s emphasis on wealth and efficiency raised concerns among outsiders, its commitment to providing living wages and opportunities ensured the loyalty of its residents. This balance of progress and stability cemented its reputation as a beacon of prosperity, albeit one viewed cautiously by other regions.
Today, Bestonia remains a paradoxical blend of unity and complexity. Its focus on economic advancement has solidified its position as a leader in trade and innovation, but its immense purchasing power and centralized control have made it both a marvel and a threat to neighboring regions. By investing in uncharted territories created during Ragnarok, such as newly formed islands, the Conglomerate has avoided direct conflict, expanding its reach through commerce rather than conquest. Despite its challenges, Bestonia’s ability to adapt and thrive underscores its resilience, making it an enduring powerhouse in Domhan’s intricate tapestry.
