Narcoberry

"Narcoberry"   A perennial flowering plants with deep purple colored berries. A rare plant sought after for its medical application to relieve the affects of drugs.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Perennial long thin red woody stems containing sharp curved briars for defense and branching at the top of the plant into dark green large pinnately compound leaves with five or seven leaflets. Groups of 3 to 5 deep purple to black berries grow from purple flowers. Long fiberous roots with extended suckers.

Genetics and Reproduction

Plant reproduction having both male and female flowers. But usually propagate using extended underground shoots (suckers) that develop roots and eventual new individual plants.

Growth Rate & Stages

Berry's grow on the 5th year's growth and onward. Grows up to 5 feet tall on thorny stems.

Ecology and Habitats

Far ranging species requiring moderate sunlight, average soil quality, and medium rainfall.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Water and nutrients are absorbed through the fiberous root system and energy is put into growth for the first 5 years. Berries will grow on the 5th and successive years. Plant is protected by sharp curving briars on stems and serrated leaves.

Biological Cycle

Plant grows from seeds or sucker roots. Each year the plant grows 1 foot taller than the previous year to maximum of 5 feet tall. New growth begins in the spring, berries grow during the summer, and looses leaves in the winter.
