Menat

The Menat is a rattle-like magical amulet worn around the neck used to keep the undead at bay. Inside of the metallic chamber are the ear bones of the undead that prevent the wearer from being observed by the various undead creatures of the desert.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Very powerful abjuration and necromantic magic has been enspelled into the very materials of the amulet. The combination of the spells interacting with the metal and bones repels all varieties of undead entities creating a simple yet powerful talisman for the people of the region.   When shaken, these bones rattle against the inside of the amulet and ward off any nearby undead beings. Each use slowly degrades the bones inside as well as tarnishing the outer silver. When completely black with tarnish or the bones have been shaken to dust, the amulet becomes useless.

Manufacturing process

Aside from the magical spells and reagents used to produce the protective qualities of the amulet, its manufacture begins with shaping the Arcane Silver into a hollow shape. The most commons forms are those of stars and hearts but several religious symbols and personal designs are available as well. The ear bones of the undead are then sealed inside of the amulet and attached to a cord or chain that can be worn around the neck. Finally several abjuration and necromantic protection spells are placed upon the finished talisman.

Significance

The Menat is used by the everyday citizens of the various Jafa Suhra desert communities to ward off evil and protect themselves from the numerous undead that inhabit the region.

Rarity

These items are expensive but quite common in the settlements in the Jafa Suhra Desert.  Outside of this region these amulets are quite rare.

Base Price

Prices range from 100 G.P. for the most mundane to several hundred gold pieces for the more elegant and refined versions.

Raw materials & Components

These amulets are constructed from hollow vessels of Arcane Silver and contain the ear bones of the undead, usually skeletons or zombies. They are most often worn on strands of woven camel hair or chains of precious metals.
