Ice Cage

"Ice Cage"

This spell creates an icicle cage made out of magical ice that surrounds and entraps the target.

Effect

Upon successfully casting the Ice Cage spell, a cubic cage of glistening, transparent white, icicle bars surrounds the intended target. The target is trapped within the confines of the cage until the spells duration is over.

Side/Secondary Effects

As an additional effect, the temperature inside of the cage is brought to freezing for the duration of the spell. Many additional uses for the cage, besides entrapment, have been found by inquisitive and sometimes desperate wizards. In extremely cold environments, some wizards have used this cage on a target to actually raise the temperature to freezing and delayed frostbite and hypothermia, giving time for other safety measures to be enacted. Other accounts have shown that this spell has been used in hot environments to help stave off heatstroke.

Discovery

This spell was created by Cryosis, The Winter Wizard. He then taught it to his apprentices, who then handed it down to their apprentices. Collectively, these peoples were to become known as the Winter Wizards.

Material Components

A simple bit of ice or snow held in the hand as the spell is being cast. If there is no ice or snow available, then a bit of water held in the hand with a cool breath or wind running over it as the spell is cast, will work as well.

Pronouncing the words, preforming the gestures, and maintaining visual contact with the target.

Effect Duration

The cage lasts for 5 minutes per caster level. The duration is doubled in cold climates and halved in tropical or hot climates.

Effect Casting Time

The spell is cast instantly after the the words are recited and the gestures are preformed.

5 feet per level of the caster.

Applied Restriction

Concentration and visual contact with the target must be maintained throughout the casting process. If one or the other breaks, then the spell misfires and may either randomly target another in the same general location or just target that last seen location.
