Research account by Healer Jayr Riphath,
An interesting account found in the discovered judicial log of the village of Moonwood, recounts an event where someone believed to be suffering from Lupinus Mentis was apparently cured. The report states that an individual, Felan Bardou, claimed to be a wolf trapped in human form, and was captured by a group of panicked villagers in a remote town far to the north called Moonwood. Due to their recent unexplained disappearances, fires, cattle mutilations, and several witch trials, the villagers had no tolerance for werewolves in their midst and thought it best to save his soul. They bound the stranger in heavy ropes and weighed him down with large stones, then suspended him from a bridge into the cold river below. After several minutes under water, the villagers pulled him out in order to bury the body. They were astonished to see that he was still alive and that he was calm, collected and no longer raving about being a wolf. Apparently all of his faculties had returned to him. And while they were relieved that he was not a werewolf, they conclude that he must be a witch since he did not drown in the cold river, they immediately burnt him at the stake in the town’s center. Saving his soul and protecting their town.
Perhaps something to do with the cold water running through his lungs was able to dilute or purge the disease from him. If the cause was from Howlite inhalation then there could be some credence to this speculation. However, if the cause was some sort of neurological disorder then we are back to square one. Or perhaps he was just a witch. I suppose we may never know for sure. More information is required to evaluate the situation.
Addendum: All attempts by our clerics to locate this town have failed. Perhaps contacting Berend Feral or The Sable Circle would be beneficial. They may have run across this town in their explorations or be willing to seek it out for us.
