Black Wash

"Black Wash"   Skin is lightly tinted with a transparent black hue.

Transmission & Vectors

Transmitted through bacteria contaminated water, usually infected swamp water.

Causes

Bacteria in the water enter cuts and openings in the body just under the skin.

Symptoms

Due to the dark colored bacteria being just under the skin, there is an unnatural transparent black hue to the victims skin that will not wash off after initial exposure. Fever, sweats, and perceived itching may occur next. The victim becomes clumsy, weak, tired, disheveled, and gets progressively worse over time. This results in -1 Dex per week afflicted, -1 Cons per week afflicted, -1 Cha per week afflicted, and worsen AC by 1.

Treatment

Wash, scrub, and soak body with hot powdered sunstone and wild sunflower seed oil. Submerge body in this warm bath 3 hours a day for 3 consecutive days.

Prognosis

Conditions will continue to worsen over time with affects becoming more drastic at 1 week intervals. If allowed to go untreated, death is a inevitable as the body liquifies into Black Wash.

Affected Groups

All mammalian humanoids are subject to possible infection. Reptilian humanoids are usually resistant due to thicker skin and scales.

Hosts & Carriers

Any animal can carry the disease, but mammalian humanoids are at risk for infection.

Prevention

Avoid contaminated water, particularly swamps and marshy areas.

Epidemiology

Non contagious and will not be transmitted from person to person. However, those infected can contaminate clean water by being immersed in it for a period of time and any subsequent visitors may be subject to becoming infected from the newly contaminated water.

History

Cases of Black Wash are rare but concentrated in swamps, mashes, fens, and stagnant water areas.

Cultural Reception

Reactions to the infected usually range from concern to avoidance, but local healers generally know of remedies and will help out the infected as there is little risk for contagion. People usually have more of an issue with where the infected person was and why they were there. Especially since it is strange for a "normal" person to be out in the fetid areas.
