Burgomaster
Burgomaster (alternatively spelled burgermeister, lit. 'master of the town/borough/fortress/citizens') is the English form of various terms in or derived from Germanic languages for the chief magistrate or executive of a city or town. The name in English was derived from the Dutch burgemeester.
Burgomaster is the title bestowed upon the noble lines leading the various Barovian settlements by Strahd Von Zarovich.

Appointment
While the title is appointed by Strahd himself rarely has he deviated from the noble line whom holds the title. As long as there has been a reasonable heir to take their place Strahd has not typically appointed someone from another noble line.
Duties
Local rule over various areas of Barovia. Duties include handling day to day of the locality. The burgomaster is expected to collect tax and pay tribute to Ravenloft.
Benefits
Each village has a Burgomaster mansion which the Burgomaster and their family are entitled to reside in.
