Daemon Lord
Daemon Lords break almost every rule of Daemonkind, and this is due to their unnatural creation. Near all Daemon Lords are mortals from the material plane who in some manner transformed into Daemons. The most common are those who succumb to Ascendance, though common is relative, as this is still incredibly rare. It is suspected that there are some rituals that can transform one into a Daemon Lord, though if they exist, they are so incredibly rare and difficult that they are functionally irrelevant. The last manner a Daemon Lord can come into being is if a Daemon is able to transcend their existence into something more. How this would happen is a mystery, but there have been a few Daemon Lords who claim to have been born as Daemons.
Daemon Lords all have immense power, from physical strength to near unlimited magical capability. Their minds have also become something different. Their logic is warped, following some ruleset only they know or understand. Some seem to feel emotion, others are stone-cold, logic-driven creatures. Some Daemons seem to remember parts of their former life, others are entirely new entities born from the body of the ascended victim.
Many Daemon Lords are worshipped as Gods in the material plane, and they essentially function as Gods as described in the article about Daemons. In fact, any time a Daemon God is mentioned, a Daemon Lord can be used as the noun instead and it would largely be true.
Daemon Lords tend to resemble their previous physical incarnations but have an element of the uncanny valley to them. Something is always off, the face one sees is never quite right. In addition, they tend to be mutated in some manner. A Daemon Lord born of a Drow Druid will closely resemble their former self, but likely be taller, appearing as if stretched rather than natural growth. Wounds may mark their skin, emitting magical energy from the openings. Their fingernails may have become knarled claws, knuckles resembling tree roots. vines may protrude from their skin, branch-like wings coming from their shoulder blades, using leaves bound together to fly. A Daemon Lord, like other Daemons will defy all laws of reality.
What Daemon Lords want, what they aim to achieve, is unknown. Daemon Lords are still sapient creatures, though whether they are sentient--feeling emotion--is up for debate. Some continue the schemes they had in life, most common for Daemon Lords born of Lati. Others seem to have new goals, disappearing into the Daemon Lands and never returning. It is quite rare to have a Daemonlord operating directly in the material plane. Most retreat to the Daemonlands, as their new nature makes existing in the material plane uncomfortable at best and destabilizing at worst.
Daemon Lords are capable of breaching the veil between realities at will, and in theory, could cross the veil whenever they wish, appearing wherever they wish. The head of a Daemon Lord is a Daemon Hunter's most valuable prize, and the greatest Hunters are those who somehow managed to catch and slay Daemon Lords.
Daemon Lords are capable of granting some of their powers to others, as such how Warlocks, Clerics, Paladins, and other wielders of Divine Magic come into being. Daemon Lords are made more powerful by collective mortal belief in their existence and divinity, and some Hunters theorize that this is how Gods who are born as Daemons can ascend into Daemon Lords. The more believers a Lord has, the more power they can grant out, as they get replenished by the fervor of their believers. The type of magic granted varies with the type of Daemon Lord, as most can only give powers similar to those they had in life. This makes Daemon Lords born of Lati have the most potential for variety in terms of possible power sets, due to the variation possible in Lati power.
