Chitin Dug Out
Where stone and wood are hard if not impossible to find the Desert Predators have retorted to use the exoskeletons of the large bugs that also wander The Surface as places to live.
"It is never easy to say goodbye to Tikyrr but what he has left for us we can use to survive. First, however, the proper rites must be given."Allynna Holuro
Purpose / Function
The peoples of the Surface have learned how to use chitin for most if not all of their buildings this one is to serve as a dwelling for the people so that they can escape the extreme temperatures of the desert whether it be day or night.
Architecture
This is the shell of a tikyrr that has died that has been magically secured to one location. Where the head was is now the entrance into the building. Most of the cooking is done on this surface level and so is most of the entertaining this space is the first that people walk into. Facing the door there is a staircase that is going down into the houses where the family lives. The rooms are made from chitin and sand that was magically altered to stone and fused with the chitin.
History
After finding tikyrr for the first time Desert Elves saw that the shells that the beast lose when they died could be used to create houses. After they domesticated the tikyrrs they created special rituals to honor the creatures before using any of the resources that the tikyrrs had left.
