Grug

7Ft tall. Grey-green skin. Big teeth. Half-orc.

A mason in Eastwatch, Grug grew up in the wilds, but eventually stumbled into Eastwatch. Still a young man when he arrived, he has faced prejudice from every corner due to his Orc heritage. The Dwarves of the city in particular have been unfriendly to Grug. However, his large stature and tireless determination meant he quickly found work cutting stone for the constant building works going on in and around Eastwatch. Impressing his foreman, a surly Human named Jason, he was eventually welcomed in Jason's life and found a common attraction with his daughter Wendylyn. They wed, and were blessed with a daughter of their own. Wendylyn died in childbirth, leaving Grug to raise Sharyn alone. One fateful night, Sharyn was taken by a flux at the age of 8. Grug was overcome with grief at this loss. His last connection to this world snatched away. He spared no expense on the burial. Despite being a skilled worker in good standing, his low status and grey skin meant he was unable to have Sharyn interred in the crypts uptown. Instead he had to see her laid to rest at the Boneyard, reserved for paupers and vagabonds. Grug spent every spare moment visiting his lost daughter. One evening, having first gone home from work to clean up, he witnessed yet more horror. His little girl's grave lay uncovered and empty. The cheap pine box lay with it's lid pried off and piles of wet dirt stood around the hole. Grug wept and cried out in his pain. Laying the flowers he had brought, as he always did (goldenrods were her favourite), he marched back to town. They could call him names and spit at him in the street. They could refuse him service and work. But they would not prevent his little girl getting her peace. Grug enlisted the help of the party to track down those responsible and to grant Sharyn her eternal rest. The party recovered Sharyn's remains from a cavern beneath the cemetery in Eastwatch. The girl had been taken from her grave and raised as a zombie. Alaric stored the body in his pack before finding an unattended coffin in the back room of a church and returning her to her final resting place. Graz, moved by the solemn moment said a few words at the graveside to wish Sharyn well on her way. Grug, so moved by all that these strangers had done for him, thanked Alaric and agreed to join him on his travels should he need Grug's aid. They sealed their friendship with a night of heavy drinking and carousing.
