Astral Cuisine

The Deva of Nirvania are traditionally devout vegans if they eat at all. Because of their constantly healing physicality, Deva do not need to eat or drink in order to survive. While Deva have no need to consume food or drink, most generally do so because the practice is pleasurable to them (though many would never acknowledge this.) Because many Deva eat and drink, many social rules for consumption have been developed as the Eras have come and gone. Some of these rules are quite ridiculous, like how a Deva above the age of 250 should only consume food that they can telekinetically levitate into their mouths. While others are more practical…at least…from the perspective of the Deva that is. One such practical rule is this: A Deva must refrain from consuming the flesh of any creature that is beneath them, be they sentient or otherwise. This rule is followed by most Deva, with many of them eating diets solely of plants and some even only consuming minerals and gemstones. The Devic diet is confusing and inconsistent when it comes to what foods are included, but one constant is a specific delicacy that all Deva will generally partake in eating. This delicacy, is the prepared flesh of another Deva.   The Deva would never consider themselves cannibals. Cannibalism in the southern continent of the Clansplains, was an act of desperation committed by Lizardfolk, Kobald, and Hobgoblin alike; races seen as immeasurably below the Deva. The Deva consider eating the flesh of their own a sign of enlightenment. Devic meat is never obtained through murder, the Deva consider any nefarious means of harvesting to spoil the quality of the meat. Instead, many Deva will offer their own lives to be killed and eaten, knowing full well that they will return to Dioya in a century, reborn. Many Deva crave the meat of their own so much, they enter pacts with others to voluntarily die with the promise that when they return, the Deva who ate them will allow themselves to be killed and eaten.   Raw, Devic meat is sour, with very little fat or tender meat to work with. Thanks to most Deva’s diets being sparse, the meat generally reflects the diet. It takes even Dioya’s greatest chefs decades at least to master cooking Devic meat, often times having to study far more than test due to the rarity of the meat. Dioya’s only expert on cooking Devic meat is a Deva named Samari. It took Samari an entire lifetime of testing and experimenting with Devic meat to get the exact ingredients and techniques to cook the meat properly. The result is a dish so savory and so delicious, it boggles the mind of anyone who tries it. Demand for Samari’s cooking is so high, she has resorted to imbuing her restaurant, Samari’s Gastronomical Delights with a timed teleportation spell that teleports to different random locations in Nirvania every day. This allows her to avoid repeat customers, but many high powered Deva have placed tracking spells on her location just to follow her.

History

The consumption of Devic meat has been a practice held by the Deva of Dioya since before the Era of Establishment
If properly prepared Devic Meat is consumed by any race that is not a Deva, complete immunity to radiant magic is experienced for 24 hours.
