Niyshuroi Species in Dindeyyin | World Anvil

Niyshuroi (/niːʃʊrɔɪ/)

"They waved to us from the water as our ship met the shore. I had never seen anyone like them, they were smaller, quicker, more adept for the sea... It seems we share this world with many more kinds of dinu."
— Journal of a Tarii merchant
Niyshuroi are a semi-aquatic sapient species from the warm beaches of Sorey'ota. They are the genetic siblings to dintrals .

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

Niyshuroi thrive best in damp and warm enviroments. As they are semi-aquatic, proximity to the ocean is imperitave. In the rare case that a niyshuroi is freshwater, a lake or river would be optimal instead. Niyshuroi have a strong Adaptive Gene to water and sealife, but weak to most other influences, so being born in a dry enviroment will have little affect on how they can cope there.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Niyshuroi are mostly carnivorous, and can eat most meat, mainly fish and seafood, and sometimes even bugs.
Niyshuroi also have special saliva that makes poisonous plants and animals safe to eat. It also has steralising properties, and is known to sweeten whatever is consumed. For this reason, niyshuroi often run food stalls in which they chew the food first before serving it. Niyshuroi saliva is also used for many natural remedies.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Niyshuroi have distinct eyes, with a dark/coloured seclera and a lighter iris, as well as a very prominent tear duct. They have two layers of eyelids, one of which being a translucent membrane to protect their eyes while swimming. Niyshuroi ears can flatten against their head to protect water from entering. Due to this, they also have a second pair of ears just behind the first. These ears look mostly like small holes. Niyshuroi often have very exaggerated Maraysumen, mutated earlobes exclusive to those with heritage on the southern continent, Maray'yan.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Niyshuroi are very engrained with Otanin culture, as the majority of them stay in Sorey'ota their whole lives. But there are small communities of Niyshuroi that have travelled away from Sorey'ota, often to Tilrenbey and Naotüna Oruba Harbor. These niyshuroi tend to be even more proud of their culture, due to fear of losing it in the newer generations.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Niyshuroi take adapting extremly seriously, especially those who live far from Sorey'ota, who will often travel back to the region for the duration of their pregnancy. This is because niyshuroi adaptivity is very sensitive only to the plants and waters of Sorey'ota, and a niyshuroi born in another region has a high risk of having low wild features. It also serves as a physical reminder for the children of their ancestral homeland.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Niyshuroi are very happy to live among the other sapient species of Dindeyyin, as they put more of a focus on the joint culture of Sorey'ota. It is not uncommon or taboo in Sorey'ota for Niyshuroi and other sapient species to mate, and Dinshuroi (mixed Dintral and Niyshuroi) are fairly common in the region. Niyshuroi in other regions tend to stick to their own species however, in fear of losing that part of their identity.

Niyshuroi tend to be slimmer than the average Dintral, and have a thicker torso due to their specially adapted lungs.

Niyshuroi are often shades of blue, with stripes and patterns that differ depending on their adaptive influence. It is not uncommon for Niyshuroi to have bioluminescent specks.
