Letter from Grognard to Barlo, 2022 07 30

or should I refer to you as Barlo, these days? It's been a long time, but I understand that the game is afoot now and machinations I set up years ago are coming to fruition. I never meant to put you in any real danger, but of course there are always risks in these affairs. There was one thing I had to do to get things in place, and I've never been proud of it. I do hope this does not cause a rift with your new friends, but this letter is enchanted to return an old memory.
I have gone to another place and I won't be reachable any time soon, but it is still important you and your friends find Jinx and let her know of your adventures. It will help ensure these actions were not for nought.

Barlo ONLY!

After you read the letter, a light mist comes off the page (no one else seems to notice it). The mist goes into your eyes and you have a memory of how you were in Dyrt handling some Black Road business and how Grognard, who you knew as "Captain Meklan" it seems -- he charmed you. It was a very powerful dweomer and he had you act as if you were robbing him so they could get a 10-year-old human child to stop the robbery. After the robbery, it seems there was a Memory Replacement type spell and this memory was long forgotten.
