Thrane, Western Garrison
Thrane is a city on the Thranish peninsula, in the province of Lucrenia. It has historically served as a military and trading outpost for the Empire of Nara Tok. For a long time, Thrane was the second largest city in Lucrenia, before it was overtaken by the Kanik city of Kannera.
The site of Thrane once marked the western boundary of the Aelder Wood. Forest Giants once inhabited the woodland between Thrane and the Wannib River. However, this western portion of the ancient forest was destroyed during the reign of Maknor Wildfyr, only the small Thranish Forest surviving in the southern portion of the Thranish peninsula.
The town of Thrane was founded in the year 175 IF, one of the earliest Imperial colonies south of Yethisia. It grew to prominence as a strategic outpost during the Goblin Crusades - indeed it was the administrative nexus for the many attempted landings and invasions into Kanik. During the period between the First and Second Goblin Crusades, Thrane saw a massive burst in population, as did its brother-city, Lucria.
After the annexation of the Hahgi, Thrane remained an important military outpost, hosting the Lucrenian navy and the largest Redcloak garrison in the province. It was during this period that the Thranish mayoral office was abolished - instead the city's garrison commander serves as de-facto mayor of the city.
During the time of Abahk Stuz, Thrane continued to be important for the Exarch in Lucria, and remained the base for many unsuccessful attempts to regain control of Kanik. The Thranish garrison also played an important role in maintaining the Exarch's control over the Thranish peninsula in general, as well as convincing the Exarchy's neighbours that Lucrenia would not be easily taken.
After the end of Abahk Stuz, Thrane would return to its previous role as an important military and trading city in Lucrenia, though the development of Kannera would slightly reduce its importance in the region.
