Lucrenia

Lucrenia has been used to refer to a variety of locations or states. It most commonly refers to the Imperial Province of Lucrenia, an Exarchy in the south of the continent, encompassing the Thranish and Kanik peninsulas and bordering the Provinces of Volodaria in the east and Yethisia in the north. Lucrenia's main exports are lumber, gold and silver, although it also plays a major part in the Gnomish Luxury Trades.   The first mention of Lucrenia is found in the 179IF census of the town of Felori, a little-ways north of Thrane, Western Garrison, where it is referred to as the a Lucrenian townstead. For a time, Lucrenia referred to several towns in modern-day Volodaria, including Lucria's twin city, Selucia. After the signing of Volodar's Pact in 193 IF, and the subsequent annexation of much of the Aelder Wood, the regions were distinguished with the border between Lucria and Selucia acting as the provincial border.   Lucrenia became somewhat of an Imperial focus during the course of the Goblin Crusades, when it was the battleground for the wars with the Hahgi of the Kanik Peninsula. The Crusades resulted in the population of Lucrenia increasing by an order of magnitude, and its territories nearly doubling with the annexation of most of Kanik. The Exarchy was officially formed after imperial victory in 269 IF, the title of Exarch granted to a scion of the Di Mari Family, who retain the title to this day.   During the early years of Thaerseimai, the Exarchy lost most of its Kanik territories to revolution, in an event known as Abahk Stuz. Already on the back-foot, the Exarch was given little time to try and reconsolidate his lost lands before news of The Yethisian Invasion reached him. Desperate for allies, the Exarch reached out to the Selucian Exarch of Volodaria, who agreed to aid him in defence of the south. This alliance is known as the Twin Union, and was successful in defeating the Yethisian troops just a few miles north of Lucria, effectively ending the conflict.   The Lucrenian Exarch then refocussed his efforts on landing troops in Kanik, but was ultimately unsuccessful, in part due to a lack of supplies following the war on the mainland. He turned instead to more subtle means to try and regain control, including assassination attempts on the leaders of the burgeoning Hahgiahk government. After the collapse of the Hahgiahk and the subsequent success of the Vengeance Campaign, The Lucrenian Exarchy was granted its Kanik lands back after their annexation by General Vraidan Ffandor and his host, and it retains them to this day.   Lucrenia is an Exarchy: an Imperial province de-jure ruled by its Exarch, a scion of a noble house who has the final say in administrative matters in the region. The Lucrenian Exarchy is ruled by the Di Mari family, who rule from their ancestral home in Lucria. Individual cities and towns are usually governed by their own mayoral offices, or equivalent systems, but provincial laws and sanctions are controlled by the Exarch, who is answerable only to The Senate and the Emperor himself.   Northern stereotypes about Lucrenians portray them as honour-bound, overly serious, zealous crusaders, obsessed with duelling and piety. These stereotypes are not unfounded - certainly the noble classes of Lucrenia, all pious followers of the Sidari Church, seem to echo this concept. However, these stereotypes do not encapsulate Lucrenian society and culture. Story-telling and mythical art is popular in Lucrenia, as much as in distant Cyrin. Lucrenian opera is unrivalled in the Empire of Nara Tok, inspired from the forest gnomes of Lak Fip, while lone bards are popular among the lower classes. Lucrenian society is, however, rife with tensions - the Hahgi make up over half of the province's population, yet remain poorly represented in government. Tensions have arisen, especially between certain sects of the Sidari Church and the Inkers. It remains to be seen whether the tensions will result in any change.
