Long ago, on the continent of Aelderin, the gods waged war against one another. Great hosts of mortal and immortal beings fought with swords and spells, wreaking havoc across the land. After centuries of unceasing battle, the land was scarred beyond imagining. Mountains had been levelled, forests had burned and entire civilisations were wiped out. Clarity came to the gods at last and a treaty was signed which allowed the mortal races to develop without divine intervention. The Age of Mortals had begun.
Since the Warring Times, many empires have risen and fallen. The most recent of these is the Empire of Nara Tok which stretches across all of Aelderin. It has managed to survive for several centuries, yet it was plunged into turmoil by the rise of a long-dead evil. While that evil has now been vanquished and the Emperor restored to the throne, the cost of this is making itself known. The empire is balanced on a precipice and any action may cause it to topple.
The fate of a continent lies in the hands of a few: the quickest, strongest and luckiest of adventurers, whose action or inaction may bring the return of peace and prosperity, or an end to even the vaguest modicum of stability. The machinations of the selfish threaten to turn the Empire on its head, and whispers of ancient cults and hidden demons may finally prove themselves true.
