The Crimson Fleet

The Crimson Fleet was the name given to the navy of the united ghoblinoid tribes of the Kanik lowlands by their imperial enemies, so-called for the characteristic, red, kanikwood hulls of their vessels. It played an instrumental role during the Goblin Crusades, keeping invaders from the Empire of Nara Tok from landing on Kanik shores.   The lowland akragoblins employed much smaller vessels than their Imperial counterparts, each equipped with a score of ghoblin archers and a ghoblin priest-mage. Engagements with the fleet generally involved larger Imperial ships being dashed against rocks in the treacherous waters of the Shattered Coast, before the Imperial Armada adapted to this tactic during the course of the Third Crusade.   For over thirty years, the terror of the Crimson Fleet kept crusaders wary and protected the outnumbered Hahgi from invaders. After the success of the Fourth Crusade, however, the Fleet was lost. Some theories hold that the Fleet, laden with relics and the most revered priests of the ghoblin tribes, escaped from Imperial capture, in an event generally referred to as The Exodus, though there is little evidence to suggest this.   Imagery of the Crimson Fleet became especially popular during Abahk Stuz, in an attempt by the newly united Hahgiahk to reclaim the legends of their past. It remains a popular theme in pieces from the Kanik peninsula.
