Ichor Rot Condition in Deus Irae: Falling Night | World Anvil

Ichor Rot

Divinity has it's perks. It doesn't take a philosopher to tell you that.   Longevity, immunity to most diseases, resistance to the elements and most forms of injury.   Ichor Rot is the weight on the other side of the scale, joined by various philosophical arguments.   A disease only gods can contract, Ichor Rot starts as a wet cough that progresses in severity until the sufferer is hacking up the gold blood of the gods. The condition will rapidly deteriorate from there. Over time, the ichor being coughed up will turn to a slick black substance, like oil. That substance will soon become visible within the veins of the carrier, causing a latticework of poisoned blood and flesh. The patient will grow weak due to the blood-poisoning and eventually die, coughing all the while.   If the subject weren't divine it would be pretty easy to mistake the disease for consumption, also known as tuberculosis.

Transmission & Vectors

Unknown. No action other than distance seems to protect against it. No facial covering. No protective suit. No godly gift of health and wellbeing. Simply being in the room where an afflicted individual has been can be dangerous, and there's evidence that it remains on location for years if not indefinitely.

Causes

Unknown. Cases randomly appear within the divine population and can explode out from there.

Treatment

There is no treatment for the disease. Even the oldest and most powerful gods of healing and medicine make no headway with the disease. They can't even slow it's progression or keep themselves from getting it.

Cultural Reception

Fear. Gods fear it for it's death sentence, but even mortals fear it despite their immunity.    If it can kill a god, and the gods can't cure it, why wouldn't you fear it?   Not to mention the political ramifications for if a countries pantheon gets gutted by the disease, if not outright obliterated.
