The Nap

The Nap, a small and furry fey race, possess a mischievous nature and take great pleasure in playing practical jokes on others. Their particular brand of mischief revolves around inducing drowsiness or even lulling individuals into a deep slumber, often at the most inconvenient or unexpected times.   Naps derive immense pleasure from observing the reactions of those affected by their pranks. Whether it's seeing a person nod off during an important meeting, a knight fall asleep on guard duty, or a bard suddenly fall asleep in the middle of a performance, Naps find great amusement in the unpredictable consequences of their actions.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Roughly the size of a small domestic cat, Naps have body proportions similar to pixies without wings. However, they're covered in a thick layer of long, fine fur that gives them a very rounded appearance. They have large eyes that are clearly visible through the fur, similar to those of an owl.

Genetics and Reproduction

As a fey race, the Nap have the unique ability to mate with individuals of any race. However, the child is always born as the race of the mother.

Ecology and Habitats

Unlike many other fey races, who find solace and mischief in the tranquility of natural environments, the Nap belong to a unique group known as the "Urban Fey. These mischievous creatures derive their pleasure and amusement from interfering with those who lead bustling lives in cities, towns, and urban environments.   The Nap find urban landscapes to be a playground of endless pranks. They are particularly drawn to the organized chaos, fast-paced routines, and bustling energy that permeate urban areas. They enjoy disrupting the routines and expectations of city dwellers, injecting a touch of whimsy and unpredictability into their daily lives.   The urban nature of the Nap sets them apart from their woodland counterparts. Instead of venturing into pristine forests or secluded glens, they feel most at home amidst the hustle and bustle of urban environments. They are masters at adapting their pranks to the urban landscape, using the cityscape itself as a canvas for their mischief.

Behaviour

The Nap's favorite pranks involve either making people drowsy with their "Lullaby" ability or making them fall asleep instantly with their "Slumber" ability. They often choose inopportune moments to do this, such as making someone drowsy during a serious discussion, so that the conversation partner thinks they are boring the target or not being taken seriously. The drama that often ensues is the desired outcome that the Nap really fancies.   When putting people to sleep, a Nap often chooses people who are engaged in work that requires concentration or coordination, such as a waitress balancing plates or a craftsman doing detailed work. The hope for putting them to sleep is to see what disasters or emotional outbursts can be caused.   Some of them can be particularly vicious, especially in groups, as they try to outdo each other in ways that often result in horrific injuries to their victims. However, being very small and quite adept at stealth, victims rarely realize they have been pranked by Naps.
