Fairies didn't descend, even indirectly, from Humans. Their ancestors were mere insects, who absorbed such quantities of magic inside the deep forests that they were shaped by it into a Humanoid -or Elflike, more accurately- form, with the same sentience any other member of the Divided would possess.
They now live across all of Leksanit, anywhere that has even a bit of greenery. Their lives are significantly shorter than Humans', but they have the energy to accomplish just as much if not more in such a short time.
Fairies are far smaller than any other race, measuring the same average height as Humans, but in inches rather than feet. They have colorful insectoid wings on their backs that allow flight (and shed an odd crystalized form of magic as they do so) that vary in appearance depending on what kind of insect they are descended from.
Physical Attributes and Appearance
Fairies are, by far, the smallest race among the Divided. Standing roughly 1/12th the size of a Human, they tend to be only 5 1/2 to 7 inches tall.
Their bodies are amazingly similar to Humanoid for creatures that descend from insects, leading some to question if those stories are actually true or not. Outwardly, they resemble incredibly small, winged Elves. Internally, most of their bodily functions are roughly the same as a Human's, aside from the fact that they happen at a much more rapid rate, and that they reproduce via eggs rather than live birth.
Their dragonfly-like wings allow them to fly, and tiny bits of crystalized magic usually flake off from them as they do so.
Though their wings have a natural color, they change hue to some degree based on what seems to be their mood.
Magical Attributes and Skill
Fairies are extremely talented at Telekinesis, Transfiguration, Teleportation, and Transformative magics. They are below average at Elemental, Black Magic, and Necromancy.
Their spiritual reserves are impressive, as is their fine control, and their regeneration is amazing. Their large-scale control is a bit lacking, and they have no particular weakness to magic.
Senses and Perception
Fairies have generally poor eyesight, due to their tiny size most likely, but make up for it with a very strong sense of smell and fairly impressive hearing abilities. While they aren't able to see magical forces without a spell, they are able to sense them to a degree that other races can't, even without sight specifically.
Genetics and Reproduction
Fairies reproduce by laying massive quantities of eggs. Many of their young don't survive to adulthood, but thanks to the rates at which they spawn, the population continues to expand.
Growth and Lifespan
Fairies, the ones who make it past infancy, develop rapidly. They reach physical and mental maturity within 3 to 4 years. Unfortunately, they age just as quickly, usually living a mere 17 to 25 years old.
Naming Traditions
Fairies' names tend to be similar to Human or Elves for the first name at least, though their last names tend to reference the environment they live in, generally with mentions of grass, trees, and the like.
Example Last Names: Flutterleaf, Solidbranch, Benttree, etc.
Culture and Customs
Fairies live in large family groups, with typically several different generations living and working together nearby to their home. Many either run businesses of some sort, or else help witches with herbalism in exchange for help from the bigger people.
Dietary Needs
Fairies consume a staggering amount of calories, more than even a comparable Human would eat, despite their tiny frames. They do have an appropriately incredible amount of energy to burn it all off with, though.
Etiquette Tips
Fairies tend to be accepting of almost everything, and will usually accept people's help with just being picked up or brought to wherever they're going, pretty much anything.
They are also quite mischievous, and preventing them from pulling odd pranks or playing around in immature ways, while it might be simpler and less troublesome, tends to make them quite upset.
General Opinion
Fairies are considered to be a nuisance by some, do the fact that they have the energy of a dozen men, but others consider them to be a blessing since they're absolutely incredible when it comes to assisting with herbalism.
Fun Fairy Fact!
Fairies' wings are capable of growing back if damaged, but it can be absolutely devastating in the meanwhile.
