Canine Couriers
Within Sudland, the Royal Sudland Company of Canine Couriers provides swift transport of small packages and messages throughout the country for the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Sudland and government of Sudland using Delivery Dogs running along defined routes that have courier stations spaced along them.
Along those routes, courier stations have been set up every 10 to 20 miles where the Delivery dogs can rest, and get food, water, or whatever other care they might need. Since the dogs are running along routes that they know well, they can move much faster than in situations where a Delivery dog may need to find its way through less familiar territory. Also, at the courier stations, packages can be changed from one Delivery dog to another, ensuring that the packages are being carried by dogs that are well-rested and moving as fast as possible.
The system set up by the Royal Sudland Company of Canine Couriers is more complex than it initially might appear. The courier stations must be correctly spaced along the routes and sized appropriately to handle the number of dogs that are expected to be there at any time. There must be personnel at each station to provide food and water and change packages from one dog to another. Supplies of food and other essentials for personnel and dogs must be delivered to the stations. The Delivery Dogs need to be bred, raised, trained, groomed, and given health care, and then looked after when they retire from service.

The system of canine couriers set up by the Royal Sudland Company of Canine Couriers (along with the use of Homingbirds by the Sudland military and the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Sudland) ensures efficient communication throughout the Kingdom, which is a key to its cohesiveness. Regardless of where something happens in the country, King Einar Tachibana Larssen and his government know about it within a day or two and can respond.

Canine couriers, otherwise known as Delivery Dogs, are used throughout Derkomai; however, the system of courier stations, with the dogs running along defined routes, that set up by the Royal Sudland Company of Canine Couriers is used only by the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Sudland and the Sudland government.
