A majority of the races that populate Silverhall are of the ilk that is more comfortable in a subterranean lifestyle such as Drow, Deep Gnomes, Goblins and Dwarves. Depending on the specific trade an individual takes on, their wealth class can fluctuate. All professions resolve around the harvest, production and distribution of spider silk products.

Government

Silverhall functions as an average production settlement would with every individual going about their business procuring their wares, processing and trading as needed, gathering supplies and materials from the necessary sources, taking on apprentices to pass along the craft, etc. In this way the primary government organization pertains to protecting workers and their products, maintaining fair trade rates and general observation of the city. Products sold are taxed a small rate in order to support the local guard and government.

Defences

Being that Silverhall is almost entirely underground, the primary mode of defense is the location itself, all entrances have reinforced gates that are observed consistently on a rotating guard schedule.

Industry & Trade

The primary and most profitable export of Silverhall is spider silk thread and the various products that can be made of the material. A majority of the established families in the town have done so by processing and perfecting products from the silk such as spider silk armor, rope, gloves, piwafwi and various decorative garments. All of these items are exported to various high-traffic areas across Ankroth and sold for a premium price due to their rarity and dazzling appearance.

Infrastructure

In order to establish a functioning community, and as a result of the posterity wrought from the farming of spider silk thread, the settlements most profitable resource, the local government has been able to establish functioning sewer systems, cobblestone roadways, tunnels to the various sections of the city, air filtration/exhaust pipes to the surface, defense gates, etc.

Guilds and Factions

A guild revolving around spider silk manufacturing and economics exists within Silverhall to manage planning expeditions for silk extractions and controlling how much product is exported in order to maintain the elevated prices due to a favorable supply and demand ratio.

History

Silverhall began as a small settlement of subterranean races who excavated the initial caves in order to begin to build their home; eventually, it was discovered through continued excavation that a large colony of giant spiders also lived in the underground cave system. Initially, the spiders plagued the small village, periodically abducting citizens to wrap in their webbing for eventual consumption. After one such attack, a successful rescue mission was conducted and a certain inquisitive drow by the name of Fymmyrn Niethon began study on the spider silk that was found on the rescued individuals. Through extensive research, they were able to discover the multitude of uses for the lightweight, durable and versatile material. Study continued which led to refinement and production methods being devised and the many garments that could be created with the material.

Tourism

Due to the high value of the spider silk produced in Silverhall, the citizens and government are extremely protective of their resources, methods of production and location; therefore, outsiders are only allowed to enter with special permission in the form of a writ or other related document that must be signed and verified.

Geography

Subterranean caves magically lit by torches throughout the city, underground water sources have been excavated and made available to citizens.

Natural Resources

The primary natural resource comes from local Giant Spiders that live throughout the cave systems in sections that have been blocked from the main city to all except for approved silk extraction parties.
