Ravenloft

Ravenloft is a connected series of realms tucked somewhere on the border of the Shadowfell and the Ethereal Plane.

Dark Powers

Ravenloft is said to be one large landmass amidst a Sea of Sorrow, ruled by an unknown force simply referred to as the Dark Powers. These dark powers controls the ever-present mists of Ravenloft, escorting visitors in and out of the realm, as well as ensuring inhabitants of Ravenloft are incapable of escape.

Dark Lords

Every domain within Ravenloft is tailored to an individual as punishment for all of eternity, these individuals are called dark lords. Every dark lord is unique, as is every domain. A dark lord is incapable of leaving their domain physically, however the dark powers ensure that its prisoners are also incapable of desiring to leave.

Domains of Dread

Ravenloft is home to a plethora of Domains of Dread, a self-contained portion of land separated by the mists. Each domain is unique and is home to a dark lord who remains trapped in that domain. On rare occasions, two or more domains may collide and share borders, these are known as clusters.

Barovia

Barovia is the oldest domain, resting at the heart of Ravenloft. Centuries if not millennia ago, Count Strahd von Zarovich was taken by the mists and his homeland was torn from the material plane, creating the first Domain of Dread.

The Burning Peaks

The Burning Peaks is a cluster of two island domains known as Cavitius and Tovag. The dark lords of these domains are Vecna the Whispered One and Kas the Bloody Handed, respectively. The two domains are divided by a range of volcanoes known as the Burning Peaks, giving this cluster its name. The Burning Peaks were formed long ago after the arch-lich and his former lieutenant waged a catastrophic battle across the Plane of Ash.

Cavitius

Overseen by the arch-lich Vecna, this domain is home to a single settlement - Citadel Cavitius. The skull-shaped citadel sits among the Ashen Wastes, a harsh wasteland that drains the life from any living creatures that pass through it.

Tovag

The vampire Kas oversees his domain from within his fortress. A dense forest populates most of the domain, only separated by a river and the city of Tor Gorak. Citizens of the city age rapidly, living only 30 years in age, though most are drafted into Kas' endless war against Vecna, meeting their fate around the age of 15.

Lamordia

The frozen wastes of Lamordia are home to Doctor Viktra Mordenheim, seeing seemingly eternal winters.
