Deia

Age of Silence 2949

Scope

The motivation behind building Deia

I am building this world in order to give a place for the stories in my head to play out and be fulfilled.  These things keep coming to mind, but they need somewhere to go, things to interact with, and an entire plethora of languages and cultures to work from.

The goal of the project

I want to write novels.

Deia's Unique Selling point

Deia's existence is a story about breaking free from the faults of reality. It is about resisting the malignity of one's surroundings and restoring righteousness to the world in spite of insurmountable odds. Where chaos reigns, order rises up to banish it.

Theme

Genre

The genre is Fantasy. Technology is roughly Renaissance level, though some primitive steampunk elements can be expected with how magic works.

Reader Experience

The age in which the novels exist have a mythical, nostalgic feel. The time of mighty heroes seems long gone, with the great empires fallen and the current kingdoms being mundane. Even so, the embers of the old world still burn, and the entire world is a tinder box waiting to be set ablaze.

Reader Tone

For the  greater populace, the world is just fine. It is fine in the sense that life goes on, and few average people have much to complain about. Even so, something feels off, as if things should not be just 'fine' and should either be miraculously splendid or horribly wretched. Times are great, but they really shouldn't be, by all accounts.

Character Agency

Great Man Theory has a significant part to play, in which history is often defined by the acts of exceptional individuals. However, even great men need motivation and support, and this is where the common man finds his hour of glory.

Focus

Rule of Law plays a significant role. The people who should be in charge are either all dead or all in exile, while those currently in charge are a mixed bag of selfish, apathetic, or ignorant. The great kings of old are gone, and the current leadership has little mind for the common folk.
Hierarchy. Expanding upon the previous focus, there is a problem in which academics have superseded expertise in this world. People claim proficiency with accolades rather than merit and skill, resulting in shoddy workmanship and a decline in the quality of labor over time. Those who show excellence tend to become disinfranchised with the world around them and go into exile or become shunned members of the very institutions they're attempting to rectify.
Sacrifice and suffering. No good in the world can be attained, save through self-sacrifice and suffering. If one hopes to enact great change, he must also be willing to commit great sacrifice to do so.

Drama

Life is dull in many parts of the world. Many individuals have found their lives unfulfilling, and desire to go out and explore, while others would rather keep the world quiet as it is.
Saçogne and Rhumenia were recently on the losing side of a terrible war, in which Lindon and Meria subjected both to humiliating conditions. Barbarians now run amock in Saçogne, and Rhumenian veterans languish in poverty; a sense of regret and resentment fills both the elderly and the youth of these nations, with the middle generation scorning both for being too radical.
The country of Meria has been in a state of discord for centuries. Each member state acts largely autonomously, and wars between stattes are frequent.
