Morgana ‘Mistress of the Sea’
‘Mistress of the Sea’ Morgana
Content notice: mentions of gore, injury and body horror.
Morgana was the pirate queen twenty five years before the current date. Yet being in command of a battalion of scoundrels was not what made her notable—no, what caused her to stand out from every other brigand of the Storm was her unrelenting dedication to mutate, mutilate and curse herself in her mad attempt at immortality. To her, no measure was too far, no matter the pain it caused her, nor the sacrifice she was to inflict on others.
“From every corner of this damnable storm, to every island within it, my name is feared. Mothers can barely whisper my name to their children. Men search me out to ‘remove my blight upon these seas’, but they shall never slay me. They all quiver at the thought of me. They seek to slay me—but I will outlast them, I will outlast this storm.”-Morgana
Pirate Recruit
Long ago, before she fell to the addiction of power, and before she began her mad quest for immortality, Morgana was but a simple hired hand. She grew from a family of merchants who had fallen on hard times, but Morgana hated the family trade, and sought out other ways to twist gold out of others. She was approached by the leader of an excavation company, a man by the name of Gwain Daheen. He offered the young woman a quick job, and promised abundant pay for its completion. Morgana accepted, and sailed to the location with a group of other volunteers. Thinking to grab some of the artifacts for herself, Morgana was disappointed to find that they were not collecting gold. Rather, all they found as they dug deep into the old ruins was old parchment and dusty books. But just as the group was finishing, they spotted an approaching ship on the horizon. A pirate crew, headed straight for the small island of the excavated ruins. Morgana, along with everyone else in her hired group, rushed to the ship. But it was destroyed by the pirate’s cannons before they could even board. The pirate ship made landfall, and the brigands spilled out, slaughtering all they found. Upon being discovered, Morgana killed her attacker with a shovel, but was quickly cornered. To replace the man she had killed, they forced her at gunpoint to join the crew for their next raid. Morgana accepted the offer, and watched as the pirates carefully loaded the old papers they had extracted, with more care than the pirates treated the gold they had from previous raids. Noting the apparent value of the papers, Morgana kept hers hidden from the crew. During her forced raid the next day, Morgana felt a satisfaction she never had felt before. The carnage did not bother her, the cannons were music to her, and the glorious loot they stole made her heart quiver. Morgana willingly joined the crew after her first raid, and proved to be both deadly and cunning in the crew’s following raids. Yet she got overconfident. Morgana’s reliance on the panic and chaos of the raid proved ineffective against the the hardened veterans of the navy. Facing off against a dozen marines at once, Morgana had her right arm cleaved off from one stroke. She swam to the retreating pirate ship, and climbed onto the deck before passing out in agony.
Worthless, this is what I’m being paid to extract? Several bundles of paper? Yet gallions were gallions, and I loaded the parchments onto the pile. Save for a select few—as their horrific contents sparked my morbid curiosity. Those I hid within my tunic.-Morgana
Mistress of the Sea
Morgana awoke with a horrible infection, and for three days the stump of her former limb pained her before it transformed. Where her right arm once was, now sprouted a thick tentacle. Intrigued, she referred back to her stolen parchments. It was there she learned of Sea Curses—horrific mutations wrought by the eldritch sea. Sneaking around the ship to study the papers, Morgana learned how Sea Curses could restore limbs, and sometimes even save one from mortal wounds. It was then that the daughter of some unimportant merchant died, and where the mad pirate queen was born. Right there—in the bow of an old ship. From there, Morgana left her crew to experiment with the Sea Curses. Her experiments started small, but quickly grew as her ambition exploded, and her lust for eternal life overwhelmed her. Using gold obtained through blood and stealth, Morgana bought a ship—one she called the Blighted Mistress—along with a crew. Among this crew was a young man by the name of Jack Fawwin, else called Jackie. With her crew, Morgana raided and plundered to get the gold she needed for her research and experiments. Morgana was well-suited for the pirating life, as she felt no qualms about murder nor did she have any semblance of honor or decency. After many years, Morgana strayed further and further from humanity. Soon, she was more monster than man. Morgana knew this, and she knew how terrifying she was, and she used her horrific form to scare her targets into submission before battle—and she even let them live sometimes. But while Morgana was more than content to let herself devolve into an eldritch abomination, her crew worried more and more. It was evident to them that their captain was mad, and they knew she did not have their best interests at heart. The Nymph
Morgana’s ultimate quest for eternal life and power eventually lead her to the only one who had ever achieved such a feat: the Nymph. Though almost all records of her were destroyed, Morgana managed to scrape together enough information to pinpoint that trapped soul on ████████ island, in a cavern between the mortal realm and the abyss. The conversation that ensued is known only to Morgana and the Nymph. What is known is that Morgana learned of the Eldritch Heart that day, and with unusual impatience, she set out to gain one of her own.Knowing the crew’s loyalty wavered more and more every day, Morgan’s elected to act hastily. She set off immediately for the realm beyond, telling none of her crew their destination. A few, including Jackie Fawwin, had the insight to realize nothing good would come of their expedition, and left the crew at the Brigton Strait. Where Morgana sailed from there is unknown to all spare her and her crew. It seemed that on this day, the Mistress of the Sea simply vanished.
“… just spit it out. We know what you’re ‘bout ta say—anyways. We all know the captain’s mad.” Jackie sighed.
“She’s been talkin’ with someone, I reckon.” The sailor shuttered. “She has this gleam in her eye I’ve ‘ever seen before. She’s plannin’ something, and I don’t want anything to do with it.”
The Abyss
How Morgana managed to smuggle her entire fleet into the Abyss is unknown—never before has such a thing been attempted. (Of course, she’s also the only one who’s entered the Abyss willingly.) Morgana entered this wretched realm to seek an eldritch being—and to obtain its heart. Eldritch gods were immortal beings, all born from realms beyond our own. Yet there was a record—just one record—of one being slain. This was done by removing its heart.
The Abyss
The Abyss appears like a cavern, one twisted and dark. The waters are toxic, and act as if they were over a hundred feet below the surface. Survival in this damned realm is nigh-impossible.
Much of Morgana’s crew perished on the journey, and those who remained had their humanity stripped until they were almost as monstrous as Morgana. Of the ten ships she entered with, only three remained. After a year of horrors, Morgana found what she came to the Abyss for—a gateway to the world beyond. Morgana called on a being beyond—using a ritual she had discovered to draw out an eldritch god’s true form. The being known only as Ughravhe appeared. Whether Morgana knew of its significance, or even if she cared is unknown. She ordered all of her cannons fired at the great entity, and her multi-ship crew obeyed. As the smoke cleared, Ughravhe was dazed, and Morgana had it harpooned. Quickly she hacked open its body, and she herself retrieved the beating heart within the unholy god. Using one last ritual, she swapped the horrific lump of pulsating flesh for her own heart—thereby becoming an eldritch god herself.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Morgana appears human enough while bothering to do so. She is tall, with strong, thicker limbs. She is dexterous and swift—an excellent swashbuckler. This is how the mistress appears when she cares to look human. But among her foes, Morgana makes no attempt to even remotely resemble man. Her entire body is prone to warping, twisting, and changing. Ebony bone, crustacean claws, and cold tentacles may replace her limbs. Her flesh, once warm with human blood, is now cold and coated in slime.
“Her visage was horrific—I stared not at a pirate, or even at a woman. She seemed to be collapsing into herself, warping and waving as if a mirage caused by blistering heat.”-A horrified onlooker
Special abilities
When Morgana replaced her own heart with that of an eldritch god, she ceased to be human. Her body acts merely as a vessel to contain the heart, and the heart rejuvenates the body around it as protection. Simply put—Morgana’s body quickly regenerates from any injury inflicted onto it; a horrific process that would make even the toughest man queasy. Through the heart's limitless otherworldly energy, Morgana no longer requires the necessities of the human body: she does need to eat, drink or even breathe to continue her survival. The rest of her organs—spare the brain, ceased to function soon after The Heart entered her chest, and thus rotted while inside her.
The heart that beats within my breast is not my own. I replaced that frail human organ with one from a god. With every beat, power courses through me, and my flesh is restitched and warped.-Morgana, on her eldritch heart
Mental characteristics
Morality & Philosophy
To Morgana, only one singular person in the world matters: her. She holds no major philosophy, and her morals are virtually nonexistent. Every other person in the world is a means to an end—that end being her goal of power and immortality. Furthermore, Morgana is known for her needless cruelty. When bored, she has no qualms about forcing others through pain just for her own pleasure. When angry, she searches for the nearest person to tear apart, and to let their dying screams soothe her broken soul. She spares not the elderly, children, or parents—all are victims of her wrath.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Morgana fears death greatly—she cares only for extending her own lifespan. Along with her ultimate goal of immortality, she also craves power and wealth, partially due to the security they bring. To these ends, Morgana only ever sees those around her as tools to her goals. And, like any other tool, when the people around her have served their purpose, they are disposed.
Virtues & Personality perks
If nothing else, Morgana has endless dedication and persistence. She never falters on any goal, and is willing to see them through till the end.
