Iron Admiral Fau-wasenkin

Eideard (Ee-dear-d) Fau-Waskin (Fau-waz-ken)

“The point of strength? Protection. Of the innocent, of the unfortunate, of the family.”
-Eideard Fau-wasenkin
On Dylist 31st 327 TA, one of pirate Queen Morgana's ships, named Seadog, attacked Port Brimsey following the attack of the First Anarchy Movement. The attack occurred right in the midst of the chaos following the collapse of the Great Storm Government. Many of the ships that once belonged to the navy were seized by deserters, civilians and pirates. One in Brimsey remained uncontested: Hookline, a military ship commanded by Captain Eideard Sa-twain.   Lacking the firepower to take on the enormous pirate ship, Eideard elected for a more straightforward tactic. Right as the Seadog approached the harbor, he had his crew tie a firepowder barrel to the front of the Hookline, and had everyone abandon ship as the vessel rammed into the Seadog. The explosion sank both ships, and, holding a better position than the remaining pirates, Eideard was able to kill them with minimal casualties. For his quick thinking and use of resources, the Sa-twain family changed its family name to Fau-wasenkin (evil sinker).

The Black Iron Navy

Shortly after Austyx began putting together a new navy following the total collapse of the government, Eideard joined him to help coordinate resources. Though he originally did not intend to stay within its ranks, he ended up doing so after seeing Austyx’s resolve to re-establish order throughout the seas. Today he is one of four Iron Admirals in the Black Iron Navy, and serves as one of Austyx’s most trusted.

Jeremiah Fau-wasenkin

Due to his pivotal role in the Black Iron Navy, Eideard never had much time for family life. His wife, a retired tailor by the name of Sanura, was the primary caretaker of their only child, Jeremiah Fau-wasenkin. Since age six, Jeremiah sought to be like his father and mother, enlisting in the Black Iron Navy in 346 TA at age 18. Eideard had mixed feelings over his son’ involvement—for one, it meant the two could spend more time together. On the other hand, being in the military did put Jeremiah in danger, a fact Eideard knew well.   Jeremiah, an idealist who preferred only to use violence against humanoids as a last resort, trained to be a battlefield medic. He was more than up for the task—Jeremiah had the strength to carry two fully-grown men at once, yet the finesse and clarity of mind to quickly and effectively perform life-saving first aid. His diligence in training was wrought from his desire to live up to his perceived expectations of his mother and father. Even Austyx himself noted the young man’s devotion as “exceptional and impressive”.   Tragedy would strike during Jeremiah’s greatest feat, though. Issued to the ship Shorerider, he would be on it during Anwon 23rd, 352 TA, when the captain would elect to try and take the ship to vanquish the Warping Mass—an aberration-class monster on the Oasis Skerry. Jeremiah’s great physical strength, endurance, and ability to keep a level head when under pressure made him the natural choice to wield one of the two Titantopplers, the other wielder being Ivakina Jiehow. The monstrosity warped onto the ship unexpectedly, however, taking much of the crew by surprise. By the end of the skirmish, Jeremiah, along with over half of Shorerider’s crew, was dead.

“I’m proud of you, son. Prouder than I have ever been of anyone. I just… I j-just wish I could tell you now.”
-Eideard Fau-wasenkin, in the memorial speech for Shorerider’s crew

Culture: The Upoth

The Fau-wasenkin family has lived on the Inner Islands since the second century of the Storm. Like all Upoth, they were once the servants of the Zeri. The Fau-wasenkin—or as they were called then, the Sa-twain—family in particular served the Metellus family.   Unlike what is expected for Upoth men, Eideard did not give up his last name upon marriage. Mostly because his wife, Sunura, told him to keep the name. She felt it wrong for the earner of a family's last name to lose it.
