Boulder Settlement in Dead in Denver: Nightwalkers | World Anvil

Boulder

From the perspective of the inhabitants of Denver, Boulder is a cautionary tale. One of hubris, and the dangers of complacency.

Pride goeth before

Boulder was considered one of the minor jewels in the crown of the US-West Camarilla. It was never the most populous domain, but it was stable and ruled with a steady hand. Decades of uneventful peace led to its Toreador Prince focusing ever more on her personal projects, rather than on mainting any amount of vigilance.   This led to her letting her unsubtle Brujah sheriff taking matters in his own hands, as he saw fit. He dealt harshly with even minor intrusions, never taking risk or consequence into account. After hearing of a member of Clan Ravnos making a temporary haven on the outskirts of the domain, he had it burned to the ground by day and considered it a job well done.

The fall

When that unnamed Ravnos' sire heard of her childe's dissappearance, she looked into the matter. Then she sent a few letters, and waited a few years.   What happened then, it still a matter of some conjecture. What is certain, is that a rampaging pack of Sabbat veterans made a target of Boulder out of the blue. They were states away from their own turf, but they had a good crack at the sleepy domain and nearly toppled it entirely in one night of fire and blood.   After the dust was settled the pack had been wiped out, albeit at great cost. Prince and Sheriff attempted to restore order, but found their efforts stymied at every turn. The Kindred who had been targeted by the pack had been some of their staunchest supporters, and they saw remaining support fall away quickly and silently.   Both Prince and Sheriff disappeared in the following weeks, leaving the domain ripe for an Anarch takeover. It has since gradually stabilized under a Nosferatu baron, but has resisted a return to Camarilla traditions at every turn.
