Mythology & Lore
Anubis and his brother set were wandering the desert till they came upon an oasis. set declared here is where his great palace will be. Anubis decided he would build his home near a great river. They both went about building their homes. Set a great golden palace, Anubis, a humble abode. When anubis awoke in his finished home, he found his home flooded—seeing this set laughed and laughed. As he leaned against his single limestone block. Having learned a rather wet lesson, Anubis moved his abode to a drier place. When his home was complete once again, he went to visit his brother. Who was still lying in the shadow of his one block. "Brother, my new house is finished, so I thought I could come and lend a hand." "Tch, I don't need your help! Go back to playing in the mud." "The ants at your feet have made a greater palace than someone as big as you in the last 24 hours." "It would take those puny ants eons to move this much weight, while it only took me one day!" "You've had the same block for 3 days."
As Anubis fished, he saw a small family of herons fishing nearby. Seeing them inspired him to make his own family. He made the first anubians out of silt, sand, and black clay. He raised them and taught them everything he knew, and they taught him. Seeing this set approached "Anubis! I see you've made me servants for my palace." Anubis barked back, "They are my children! They are not to serve anyone, especially you! If it's servants you want, do it yourself." Offended beyond words, set stomped back to his three blocks. He decided to create his own servants. The Akhekh. Made with sand, stone, feathers, and a snake. They emerged wild and strong, bringing sandstorms with every beat of their mighty wings.
Anubis' small family grew to a small village, all living in harmony as they fished and farmed by the river. Set looked on from his foundations as his servants struggled. Irritated with their slow progress, he visited his brother. "Anubis! Hello, you don't happen to have any extra serv-people. I'll pay them handsomely once my palace is complete." "No, I've seen how you treat your own children, and we have no use for your "payment"" Set stormed out of the village, but his words had caught the attention of anubis' children. That night, some of them snuck off to set's abode. Set swiftly lulled them with promises of greatness and power. All but one were convinced. The one said they would go back to the village and tell the others. Seeing the children and mindless vessels set, let them go. The one ran swiftly into the village and ran up to Anubis, telling him all. After hearing the sorrowful tale, Anubis decided that he would give them 2 nights to return. If they didn't, he would fetch them himself. 2 Days passed and on the dawn of the third day, Anubis walked up to his brother's palace. Now with the beginning of walls. He saw his children look up at him with fear. This saddened him. Anubis sat down and told his children that he was not angry, only worried. Anubis wanted to know if they were ok and where set had gone. "If this is what you want then you may stay, but know I will always welcome you back if you ever wish to return." The workers told Anubis that set had left in a great chariot pulled by his terrible beasts. In the far distance, Anubis could see a raging sandstorm. Something something snake something something banished into the desert. Something something revenge.
