Dakken Morrow
Though he was often alone, Dakken rarely found himself lonely. Dakken was abandoned as a child within the Forgotten Wood. It was never learned by the boy whether this was due to the choice of his parents or circumstance; it mattered not. He managed to carve out a good life for himself regardless, though his definition of a good life and that of others might not coincide.
It is often said of one with less than ideal manners or societal adherence that they were raised by wolves. In Dakken's case, this wasn't entirely untrue. When he was but a child, a cub, he was found by a mother wolf and taken care of by her. It seemed that she had recently lost her cubs, and she raised Dakken as her own.
Dakken's wolf mother, Kya, was friends (as much as a wolf can be friends with people) with the few humans in the area—as far as Dakken knew, these might have been the only humans. Kiana was a Ranger who shared a cottage with her wife, Imani, a Hedge Witch. It seemed that Kya understood that Dakken required things she couldn't provide, and whenever those times came up, she would bring her peculiar cub to her friends. It was from these supplemental parental figures that Dakken learned the ways of the "two-legs": their speech, their magic, and the way they wage war.
In Dakken’s 16th year, his wolf mother was killed by poachers. While looking for pelts, the poachers invaded the wrong den and captured the wrong wolf. This was a terrible mistake for the poachers. Her death wasn’t necessarily violent, but she was the only mother he knew, and the scent of her blood and that of her killers was driving him into a frenzy.
Dakken was outnumbered by a more well-armed force, which would have mattered if he had planned to give them a chance to fight back. He was raised to be a predator, and he was skilled at moving in silence and with violence. He used the cover of night to open the throats of all the poachers he found.
After exacting his vengeance, he felt more lost in his home than he ever had and decided to strike out into the world alone. He wandered the Dawn Lands alone for years, never venturing much into the heart of any society until he made his way to Aquitania. He encountered peoples there that made him feel like he didn’t need to be alone anymore. He found kinship with Talryn of House Dragonwolf and decided to join them.
