Fladdronts

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fladdronts are small humanoid creatures with wings and big ears. Their bones are light, but not light enough to make them fly.

Ecology and Habitats

Fladdronts usually live close to forests and caves. Most of them don't thrive in big cities because of the over stimulation of sound and "sight", but they also don't like to live secluded, for social life is very important to them.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Meat is the fladdronts' main source of food. They also eat fruit.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Fladdronts are closely related to bats and share many unique characteristics with them. Their noses are upturned and their mouth is wide, filled with sharp teeth. The ears are the fladdronts' most eye catching feature, being very big and thin, almost see-through in strong back light. Thin fur covers the edges of their faces, both males and females.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The fladdronts live mostly at the bases of mountains and in forests. They like temperate regions and exist in a wide variety of places.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

These people have the power of echolocation, just like normal bats. They focus most on the echolocation to sense their surroundings, especially since their eye sight is quite bad.

Civilization and Culture

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Fladdronts are the only species able to speak Echolian. It is a strange language with clicking noises and high pitched sounds, which is impossible for others to recreate. Echolian is an oral language, with no written counterpart.

History

First there were bats. They lived alone in their caves and deep in the forests, but they wanted more. A goddess saw their loneliness and gave them knowledge and wisdom so that they could travel out in the world. Some of the bats knew that it would be hard to blend in among the other folk who lived in the villages, so they asked their goddess if she could help them some more. She had grown fond of them and was more than glad to help. The bats emerged out of the caves looking more like humans; with two legs to walk on, arms and hands to work with and a face that could communicate with others. But, she told them to still be proud of their special and unique features, like their wings, ears and nose, for without them they would only be a man.

There is so much to like about this. I like the fact that you made bat people who use a language called Echolian (because of course they do!) and I like the lore of how they came to be. I especially like the pictures. I'm usually too lazy (or too nervous) to do my own pictures, so I'm always impressed to see other people do them.

Check out Natural Magic : a coming of age fantasy novel, because life is hard enough when you're fourteen, even without saving the world. Or listen to it in podcast form .

Oh my god, thank you! They are one of my oldest species (that I made myself) and I like how they have turned out! And thank you for complementing my pictures, they are nervous for me to do too ':D
