Tref Dolbenmaen
Tref Dolbenmaen lies some three leagues southwest of Tref Emrys, the rounded peak of Moel Hebog lying about halfway between them. Just south of the village, a fortified maenor guards the ford of the Afon Dwyfor where the old imperial road leads to Caer Segeint.
Geography
The fields and roundhouses of the village are spread along the north bank of the Afon Dwyfor, which meanders down from the Vale of Cwm Pennant to the north, gathering force from the springs that stream down from the mountainsides. The vale is enclosed on its northwestern side by the ridgelike massif of Mynydd Graig Goch, the Red Rock Mountain. On the east is the hunched summit of Moel Hebog, the Peak of the Bald Hawk. At the far northern end of the valley, one may climb into a small hanging valley, barely a quarter of a mile across, known as Cwm Dwyfor.
