The Kingdom of Dyfed
The Kingdom of Dyfed is an old and venerable one, most famous as the birthplace of the sorcerer Myrddin Emrys, whom the Saxons call Merlin. The Brenin of Dyfed is Rhain ap Cadwgan, a weak and vainglorious man. Although he is by right lord of Brycheiniog as well as Dyfed, his hold on the latter has been shattered by the invasion of the Ystrad Tywi by his kinsman Siesyll, expanding Seissyl's own realm of Ceredigion and dividing Dyfed from Brycheiniog. Rhain's alliance with the Dragon Queen of Penllyn has done little to improve his position, for the Queen has treated the alliance as an excuse to annex the northern portions of Ceredigion rather than aid Dyfed in regaining its own territory.
