The Cymbrian Kingdoms, whose roots predate the imperial occupation of Albion, can be divided into three groups: the Five Kingdoms (Dubhneint, Dyfed, Gwent/Glywising, Gwynedd, and Powys), the Lost Kingdoms (Elmet, Rheged, Cumbria), and the Old North (Gododdin, Lothian, Ystrad Clud). The Five Kingdoms still preserve the spirit of Cymbrian unity, despite the way the princes squabble amongst themselves. The Lost Kingdoms preserve a dim memory of their Cymbrian past but contain large tracts of wild land, occupied by elves, goblins, and other non-humans. The kingdoms of the Old North still remember their traditions but are divided, both from the kingdoms to the south and from each other, often in alliance with Northumbria, Dal Riada, or the Picts. What holds the kingdoms together is the thread of a common language which can still be understood across the borders.
