Remembrance Condition in Dark Age of Ur (First Draft) | World Anvil

Remembrance

Few remember that terrible day that the Titans ate the sun. All who are born to the world of Ur only know it to be a place devoid of light and hope. Even so, the annihilation of civilization by plague and famine is rarely envisioned to the scale in which it occurred.   One such disease, crops up with certainty as common as the cold. It is simply known as the Remembrance. The long shadow of the original plague that killed 90% of the population during the end of the Sunreap.

The Spirit of Starvation

During the dark weeks following the Sunreap, the bleak darkness starved the innumerable species of plant that grew across Ur. Incapable of supporting the ecosystems of the world, they started to collapse one after another. Mass extinction followed in short order, a famine of terrible proportions that echoed from every hill, valley and deep ocean. The hills of Anabelletia were filled to the brim with emaciated corpses gleaned   clean from hunger maddened predators. Death laid a banquet table, and the hills were coated in a hungering miasma. It is said that in this crucible of death the original Sunreap plague was born. Hunger made manifest, all records depict it as a horrific wilting of body and mind. Like a waterskin, the host's vitae is drained dry until naught is left but leather and bones. It is from the these remains that, The First were begotten. It not certain how the disease crossed the threshold from a miasmatic pestilence into a curse, but the remains of those afflicted by it in turn became actuated by the hunger and began to seek the flesh of the living.   There is no greater irony, this denial of flesh and smoldering of ancient hunger is hypothesized to be the only reason why only a weakened version of this disease exists today. Undiscernible from the common cold eventually every resident of Maussengart falls victim to Remembrance, undead and living alike. Characterized by stomach cramps and short coughing fits, only the exceptionally weak die from it. Corpses of its victims become a plague zombie, but never in the breakneck pace that legends tell happened during the Sunreap.
