The Seafarer Shack

All peckish seafarers eventually learn of the Seafarer Shack, a large mobile restaurant in the middle of the ocean. The restaurant is a repurposed boat now used for bringing joy to millions across the world. With the atmosphere just as nice as the food, there is never a dull moment at the Seafarer Shack.   The goal of the restaurant is refreshment and regeneration. Therefore, the staff members ensure that everyone who dines there has a meal that will energise them for the next leg of their journey. There is often live music at the restaurant, with tables near the stage often fully booked whenever famous artists decide to visit.

Menu & Specials

"What's the special today, sir?"
— A hungry diner
The Seafarer Shack sells many types of marine foods from all over the world. They source most of their ingredients locally and even have their own fishermen's division to get the best catches. But arguably the best part of the restaurant’s menu is the monthly specials.   The specials are always region-specific and each week, the special changes to highlight a different aspect of the nearby culture. Each month for the year, the Seafarer Shack will move to a different region to sell there and attract new customers. And the monthly specials are the most successful way of doing that.

Staff Members

At the Seafarer Shack, the staff are often what make diners’ evenings enjoyable. However, there aren’t that many staff hired by the Seafarer Shack, so they will often find themselves doing multiple jobs at the restaurant.   The chefs in the kitchen are passionate and always willing to meet customers’ needs. Under the leadership of the head chef, culinary innovation is encouraged and enthusiasm is ripe. It is often said the chefs are happiest in the kitchen, away from everyone else.   Although the waiters are different from the chefs, they are still quite friendly and most are very helpful. They value politeness and curteous customers, and see no reason to be rude if a diner is also nice. Many also appreciate tips on top for their service, but it is not compulsory at the Seafarer Shack. Nevertheless, most diners are usually happy with their service and so will tip.

History

"Listen here, what you call junk is the remains of a ship that has seen it all. Everything deserves another shot at redemption, even 'junk'."
— Jericho, to a younger Acalan
The Seafarer Shack had a varied history before it became the restaurant it is today. During the Age of Triumph, it was first a warship from a nation in the North. This nation was once a global superpower, although much of its influence is now gone. Towards the end of the Age of Triumph, the nation took part in the Sentinel War, although it is not known who they allied themselves with. Warships were created for the purpose of helping to win the war. However, during the War, the ship was lost at sea and its crew did not report back to the nation.   When the Ice Age came, the ship was submerged and was frozen in the newly formed Phadoya Sea. It was later rescued by a group of alchemists, who were looking for a place to hide when the world began to thaw. They refurbished it and remade one room into an alchemy lab for their experiments. But once they realised that the world was beginning to value alchemy, they left the ship by a harbour and took all their knowledge and equipment with them.   That was how the soon-to-be head chef Jericho Varki and his soon-to-be protege Acalan Yasinin found the ship years later. It was abandoned and unkempt, so Jericho, being a firm believer in redemption, decided to renovate it again. They were pleased to find the lab was in good condition, so that was repurposed into a kitchen, while the rest of the ship became their living space. Eventually, the chef realised he could teach his cooking skills to the Natuzan while they lived in the boat. Then, after successfully selling their first dishes to nearby residents, the two decided to find more ingredients across to create better cultural dishes. This eventually culminated into the Seafarer Shack that is known across the world today.
