Masks of Phadoya

"The powers of the Masks come from the depths of the world. When a Mask is forged, the crafter connects with the deepest darkness to get its power."
— Imala, Natuzan blacksmith
When Foreign Magic spread throughout the world, people discovered many uses for it, despite its harmful effects. At the start of the Age of Triumph, some people in the Old World used this magic to craft some powerful headpieces. These headpieces merged the powers of the Elements with the Foreign Magic to create some powerful effects. Today, these items are known as the Masks of Phadoya.

Powers

Each Mask has a certain power, and no two Masks have the same power. When they were first crafted, the Masks had powers no mortal could possibly hope to have. While the individual powers vary, they all have two things in common - the power to amplify Elements, and the power of anger. The Masks are known for making the wearer very angry, or heightening strong negative emotions.   Most Masks were created to turn the tides in fights and battles. However, some are more defensive in nature, and others are used outside a battlefield.

Appearance

Not all Masks are facial masks as implied by the name. Some are crowns or headpieces worn on the temple, while others cover the wearer's entire face. They come in all shapes and are decorated with different patterns.   Each Mask created has one or two marks on it. One mark is for the Element used to craft the Mask. While people with other Elemental powers can wear it, it is less harmful for the wearer if their Element matches the Mask.   The other mark is usually the mark of the crafter. Most Masks don't have this second mark, but some do. The crafter would infuse part of their energy into the Mask after creating their mark. For most people, this wouldn't do anything to them. However, for those of a weaker disposition (or for people who are bonded to their Element), they will hear or see the crafter's essence when they first wear the Mask. People with weaker souls find themselves following the will of the crafter, while the strongest souls may see or hear the crafter long after they have finished wearing the Mask.
