Dragon Breath

"To use Dragona is to call upon the power of the Dragons. Anyone can manipulate the Elements. Not everyone shares their powers with Dragons."
Faysal Qaderi, elven archeologist with Dragona
Dragon Breath (or Dragona in the New World) is a manifestation of pure Elemental energy and is created by the Dragons. The name comes from the Dragon's ability to spew their Element out of their mouth. Dragon Breath is not just another way to manipulate the Elements. It allows its wielders to draw power from the Spirit Realms and bring it into the physical world.   Dragon Breath has stumpted mortals ever since its discovery. Many people have tried to harness its energy for humanoid use: some have succeeded, but many have hurt themselves in the process.

"People often wonder who came first: the Dragons or the Sentinels. But it honestly doesn't matter. All their powers feed off each other."
— Faysal Qaderi

Dragons are born with an Elemental power, and they manipulate the Elements by manipulating the energy in the environment. Like all other Arcanis users, it is thought that they draw this energy from the Spirit Realms. The energy they manipulate was dubbed "Dragon Breath" by the early humanoids. However, Dragons are not the only creatures who can use Dragon Breath. Humanoids can also use it if they have Elemental Arcanis, which was given by Sentinel Eliyas.

Gaining Dragon Breath

Most people who come into contact with Dragons remain unscathed and don't gain the ability to use Dragon Breath, because Dragons tend to avoid people and will not harm them. However, people have found that the most effective way to gain the ability is to make a Dragon angry, because it will spew the full power of its Element at the person. Most people cannot take all the energy spewed at them, so they become disfigured, seriously ill or they die. Another problem is that people cannot go to any Dragon and annoy them. A person needs to find the Dragon with the same Element as them for this to have a chance at working.   When the Dragon spews its Element, the person can manipulate it all if they are fast enough and focused. After that, everything depends on whether the person can absorb the elemental energy produced. This is quite a painful process, because Dragon Breath binds with a person's soul. Once all the energy has binded, the person loses all their other powers, and cannot unlock any new ones. They are left with a more powerful version of their Elemental power.

Elemental Powers

Wielders of Dragon Breath can manipulate the Elements the same way regular Arcanis users do, and are bound by the same rules. However, wielders also gain extra powers too. Because Dragon Breath is bound to a person's soul, using it is essentially manipulating the soul's energy too. One extra power is Elemental Mimicry, where the person turns their body into their Element and create various elemental constructs and forms. For example, people can turn their bodies to elemental forms to move quickly and freely when in a fight. However, as wielders are channelling spiritual energy, they can burn themselves out very quickly, leading to all sorts of problems. So frequent rest is always recommended, especially for those who have just gained Dragon Breath.

Loss of Powers

If a person successfully wields Dragon Breath, they immediately lose the ability to manipulate any other powers they have unlocked, and cannot unlock any more powers afterwards. Only their Elemental power remains, allowing the person to wield Elemental energy. This holds true even for those with two Elemental powers.

Other Uses

There are a few other uses for Dragon Breath. People have also attempted to collect Dragon Breath to mix with existing technology. Dragons use Elemental energy to travel very fast, so engineers have successfully used it to power the world's first superfast railway: the Arcanic Light Railway. Others wanted to know if Dragon Breath really does make a person immortal.
"People do retain some youthfulness with Dragon Breath but immortality? Even I've never heard of that."
— Wanda Sylastra, librarian with Dragona
