Voluxi Beetles

Never venture into the dark without a Voluxi Beetle.
Voluxi beetles are a species of giant beetle that live and thrive in Darkness. Many sub-types have been domesticated for farming and transport among the dark. Notoriously curious and destructive, wild voluxi beetles are warded away from more isolated properties in the dark.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Rather large pill beetle type creatures. Typically any mottled 'cool' colour. Eight legs, two of which are used as rudimentary arms.

Genetics and Reproduction

Lay between 50-100 eggs twice a year.

Additional Information

Domestication

Wild voluxi have much longer feelers that inhibit their ability to function in the light like domesticated voluxi. The colours between them also differ, with domesticated voluxi having more patterns in the iridescence of their shells.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Organs - Nutritious for most sapient species and have dark resisting properties. Transport in the dark - Due to their natural ability to navigate the dark, they are frequently used in place of horses as transport animals.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Voluxi beetles are more common around rockier areas, and aren't often found near wellsprings of any kind unless domesticated.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They are blind from living in darkness, but possess a similar type of echolocation that Nailux Ghoul's and Abomination's will use to get around in the dark.
Lifespan
30 years
Conservation Status
The species itself was hunted for a long while, for the nutritious and dark-resisting properties of their organs. This led to panic for conservation, and they are now being farmed as well as hunted.
