Cowes
Cowes gets a relatively steady flow of traffic from folks travelling East-West in the North of the island. Although it's slightly faster to go cross country, it's definitely not safer, and as such Cowes has a thriving adventurer's market and a decent army outpost as well as all the amenities that would be expected of a rural market town.

Architecture
This started as a small herder village nearly a millenia ago, and has grown in fits and starts as new roads are built, the Kingdom expanded, and technologies developed. As such, the town is arranged in several very distinct districts, from the original village layout near the western edge with its wide roads and sprawling stone cottages with large gardens, through the central area with it's spiralling defensive streets of tightly packed tall and narrow houses and stone castle perched above, to the flourishing trade and service district of the south east, with several radiating streets leading to a huge marketplace and social square, all attractively and colourfully painted.
Geography
At the very northern end of the Lost Horse Plains, not far from the Liotsend Woods and looking up at the massive slopes of Mount Cultus, Cowes has fairly easy access to most raw resources they need. Wells are easy to drill, with plenty of icy water not far underground feeding into Lake Liot, and the climate is typically fairly mild, although still decidedly seasonal.
Natural Resources
Farming, hunting, wood.
