Avenel (Aa-ven-ell)
Avenel is one of the oldest towns on the island, here long before Daly became a kingdom. Even though is has been absorbed into the kingdom to some extent, Avenel retains it's own sovereignty and is technically an allied city-nation, often representing the denizens of the Bour Forest, also not technically part of the kingdom of Daly.
The central city is almost wholly elvish, although there are a decent number of half-elves, humans and others around the outskirts of the city. Avenel doesn't sit on any major roads, but there are a few tracks and marked trails winding their way there.
The Elves of Avenel are fairly self-sufficient, with the endless expanse of the Bour Forest for wood and game, good arable land on the plains in front of the town, and a swift flowing river a few hundred yards away.
The outskirts are moderately welcoming to visitors and tourists, although it is rare for the guards at the gates to the central area to let anyone who isn't resident into the city proper.

Defences
A very well trained elven army, as well as most residents being trained in the art of battle over centuries, are added to high, well reinforced walls.
Industry & Trade
High levels of magical items and beautiful weapons and art come from Avenel, and it is one of the best areas to visit if you wish to commission a specific magical item. Other than that, they are largely self-sufficient, being able to trade magic and knowledge for the items they cannot grow or make for themselves.
Architecture
Elegant towers and soaring buildings made of polished white stone are topped with verdigris copper roofs, and vines and plants flow between buildings and drape from elegant balconies. Wide streets pause at regular intervals for courtyards and plazas, often with tinkling fountains or even pools, and trees line the streets and provide shade in the gardens.
