The Core Device

A very handy object, often seen as part of a soldier or explorers necessary gear, nowadays. Can record data, display a compass, send and receive short messages, as well as numerous things that just make life easier when out in the thick of things.

Manufacturing

This device can only be produced from a single fabricator unit, which is housed in Cawold's capital sanctum. From there they are made when necessary and provided to the other capital cities military and to the Digger's guild, who are responsible for it's rediscovery. Other's must place an order and pay for them in full before their production even begins. These can take some time as the materials must be found or presented along with payment.

No one is sure who first made these devices, but research shows they were common in the old age.

Access & Availability

It is not commonly available to the public. Currently they can only be obtained by joining the military or by joining the Digger's guild. Both possess vastly differing models with available software and hardware, with the Digger's versions being the more modular of the two. There are others who DO possess the devices, but they are typically of the higher class or passed down from one generation to the next. Being how important these are, as well as costly to produce, it is dire if one is lost or stolen! A Digger would find themselves banned from the guild and a soldier with a court-marshal and possible death depending on the circumstances. Any other would just be left knowing that they lost a piece of history or costly investment!

Complexity

They are reasonably complex objects, with the inner-workings only known to few who specialize in their work. The machine used to make them fabricates them when the proper material is presented, with the process being very detailed and mostly done in the housing of the machine itself.

Discovery

These were rediscovered shortly after the founding of the Digger's Guild, by a detachment of Digger's who discovered a partly functional production facility that was uncovered. Schematics as well as a working fabrication unit we salvaged before the rest of the facility became submerged into a deep watery grave, costing the Digger's a dozen lives. But due to it's reproduction, it has saved numerous others lives, so the loss was for a noble cause.
