Anatomie

The Beholders are floating beings of seemingly endless anomaly and mystery. Their spherical bodies float effortlessly in the air, surrounded by a shimmering aura. Their skin, if you can call it that, is a strange translucent mucus of subtle colour gradients that vary depending on their state of mind or magical activity. They are littered with a multitude of eyes of varying sizes and shapes covering their entire front. The eyes radiate a mixture of bright colours that vary depending on the type of magic they are using. Beneath them stretches a large mouth filled with a row of pointed teeth. Tentacles extend from their spherical centre and serve as their arms. They can use them for a wide variety of tasks and activities, but mainly use magic for these. Inside them is a complex system of brains that store any information they receive. They have neither a nose nor ears.

Genetik und Vermehrung

The reproduction of Beholders is similar to other demonic races in the realm. They collect life energy, which they store within themselves. As soon as a certain amount is reached, they can enter the so-called Incubarium. In this phase, they transfer the collected life energy to special breeding grounds in which new Beholders grow.

Wachstumsrate & -stadien

When demons enter the Incubarium, some of the transferred life energy is absorbed by them, improving their abilities and increasing their body, strength and power. This also applies to the Beholders.

Ökologie und Lebensräume

They have a pronounced penchant for dark and shadowy regions, which is why they are found exclusively in the Black Lands. They feel most at home in dark environments, where their shadow magic and therefore their senses are at their most acute. This is where they can utilise their abilities to the full and carry out their tasks most efficiently.

Ernährung und Gewohnheiten

The Beholders do not actively go hunting to gather the life energy they need. Instead, they obtain this energy from the Sanguinara potion, which is produced by the Rostramids. The Beholders rely on the support of the Blood Alchemists, who specialise in the production of this special drink. The Sanguinara potion, an essence of pure and stronger life energy, is consumed by the Beholders to strengthen their vital powers, among other things.

Behaviour

Beholders exhibit extremely unemotional behaviour, which extends to their interactions with members of their own race as well as their relationships with allies and enemies. Emotional attachments and emotional behaviour are alien concepts to them, and their actions are mainly guided by processing information and calculating situations. In threatening situations, Beholders react with pragmatic actions. They perceive danger and use their magic to ward it off effectively. This behaviour is based on their ability to analyse and react quickly without being affected by emotional influences. Despite the lack of real feelings and the resulting absence of loyalty, Beholders still choose to remain in their respective citadels and carry out the tasks assigned to them. This decision is based on the stimulating effect they experience when they can continuously work with information and data. The citadels offer them the best conditions to gather a variety of information, which makes them feel most at home there.

Due to the absence of emotions, social structures have no value for the Beholders and therefore do not exist within their community. Beholders act and interact with each other primarily on the basis of logical reasoning and the exchange of information, with personal ties or social hierarchies playing no role. Their interactions are functional and aim to process information efficiently and fulfil tasks within their citadels.

The Beholders are characterised by an extremely impressive intelligence. Their ability to retain information largely exceeds all standards. Equipped with multiple brains, they are able to follow and process several complex trains of thought simultaneously. This extraordinary multi-tasking ability enables them to process information quickly and efficiently. They understand almost everything and can immediately incorporate that information into their thought processes. When they communicate with others, they do not do so in the conventional way, but with telepathy. They are able to conduct several of these telepathic transmissions at the same time. They are also magically gifted and master a unique blend of fire and shadow magic. These magical abilities allow them to cast powerful spells based on destruction, deception or manipulation, for example.

Beholders possess a range of sensory abilities that go beyond those of normal beings. Their primary sensory organ is the many eyes that are spread across their bodies. These eyes are not only responsible for seeing, but also for detecting magic, subtle energies and all kinds of other information. The eyes specialise in different types of perception, whether it is detecting the invisible, spells or following magical traces. In terms of hearing and smelling, Beholders rely less on traditional senses. In fact, they do not rely on acoustic vibrations or olfactory stimuli, but rather on magical means to gather information. For example, they can perceive the vibrations of spoken words in their immediate surroundings and convert them directly into information. It is also possible for them to see and detect traces of odours with their eyes. These magical senses enable them to reach a deeper and often supernatural level of perception.

The Beholders are closely integrated into the Demon Realm of Kagdranoth and fulfil a role as advisors and guardians of knowledge. Due to their ability to process information, they act as living libraries and documentation centres. Their main task is to collect, organise and preserve information on all aspects of the demon realm. Utilised in numerous administrative positions, Beholders serve as a resource for strategic planning, historical records and decision making. Beholders support the higher ranking demons of their factions through their precise analyses and prognosticative abilities. Their lack of emotion makes them objective and rational advisors who fulfil their duties conscientiously without being influenced by personal motives.

They have a perfect knowledge of all demonic languages. Their keen intelligence enables them to effortlessly understand and reproduce every nuance and subtlety of demonic language structures. They are also able to learn the languages of other races.

They have a pretty unique physique. Unlike traditional muscular structures, their bodies do not consist of solid muscles, but of a spongy mass reminiscent of molluscs. This makes them extremely susceptible to physical force.
