New Salem

New Salem is the largest survivor colony and the capital of the North American Free Zone. During the initial events of the apocalypse, United States military forces were able to secure Salem, Oregon and began to move citizens to it. Eventually, they were able to hold nearly the entire city against a massive horde of demons and begin construction on walls and other defenses, laying the groundwork for what would become the TCRD. New Salem was able to make contact with survivor colonies in Victoria and Portland by 2026, at which point the NAFZ was founded. 
New Salem is a beacon of hope among survivors, though the strict measures that ensure it's success often mean that traveling survivors are denied entry to the city. It is protected by the great rubblewall, it's sewers are closed off and protected from demonic intrusion, each entrance to the city is also consecrated ground, and each citizen is inspected frequently for signs of demonic possession. The city is home to the TCRD headquarters as well as the federal government of the NAFZ.
