Síorladh
The Grey Guide
Divine Domains
As the face of death and mercy, Síorladh is responsible for maintaining the Teluric Gates and its associated rituals. According to the design created by Ellastrophel, a human soul is put to rest by an acolyte to the death god. That soul remains at rest for the remainder of the year in which they died until the night of the Winter Solstice.
On that night, death acolytes all across D'neth lead their communities in singing the dead awake. The acolytes then lead their local souls to the entrance of the Dead Highway, also known as the First Gate of Death, which can be represented by any portal, doorway, or threshold. The Gates of Death are organized as follows:
- The First Gate of Death: Fear - the soul must shed their fear associated with dying, with leaving behind loved ones, with what lies ahead
- The Second Gate of Death: Guilt - the soul must let go of their guilt for things left undone or unsaid
- The Third Gate of Death: Shame - the soul must let go of their shame for things they did that they regret
- The Fourth Gate of Death: Grief - the soul must let go of their grief for the things they left incomplete, for dying "before their time"
- The Fifth Gate of Death: Lies - the soul must accept the harm they caused and the pain they wrought
- The Sixth Gate of Death: Illusions - the soul must accept their shortcomings and their mistakes
- The Seventh Gate of Death: Earthly Attachments - the soul must shed the attachments holding them to their former life
Once a soul has passed beyond the Final Gate, they are beyond the call of any human or divine magic for they are in the presence of Ynara. Before that point however, a person can be theoretically resurrected given sufficient reason to do so. They are most easily restored to their former selves before they have crossed any of the Gates.
