Storm of Leaves

A Void Walker created from the forcefully bioconverted hull of a Kitsune Light Planetary Assault Carrier.

History

The assault ship turned freighter KSF Storm of Leaves was recovered immediately after a bioterror attack by persons unknown - hull damage all the way down to internal decks, loss of critical systems and the deaths of the entire crew due to infected Spider Tree spawnlings had all occurred before the Void Walkers could arrive. In addition, secondary effects of the Spiders appeared to have converted the ship into an organic form similar to the Dryad ambassador-ship Everjoy’s own transformation. As an awakened Void Walker, Storm remembers all of this, as well as a little of the crew’s experiences as the ship was overrun.   Gradual parity upgrades, restored functionality for her hull and a lot of behind the scenes therapy has allowed Storm to begin carrying proper crew again, and she has been assigned a complement of three Sestian marine companies. She originally tried to push her temporary troops to punishing excellence as she did herself, but soon realised they aren't her and has mostly eased off on surplus training regimes.

Appearance

An older-looking dryad with a lot of scuffs and scars on her bark, especially forearms and forelegs. Storm's plantlike physiology takes after terran willow, with small silvery-green leaves forming hair and tail and a desaturated tone to her bark. Her VW form was created with a prominent scar running horizontally over her nose and beneath her right eye, partially obscured by her hair on the right side. Without the scar, her features would be regular and a little youthful with bright and alert red-amber eyes.   Keeping to her presumptive homeland and specialisation, Storm wears a Kitsune gunnery officer's uniform altered for her tauriform body, but with a navy captain's insignia. The uniform's greatcoat is well turned out and carefully maintained, and each is further customised to carry her leather saddlebags and emotional support grenade belt. Further from the greatcoat her grooming standards start to fall, and in particular Storm's hooves and their protective cilial roots tend to be visibly ragged.   Storm may or may not own a growing collection of plush bioships. If she does, no one can say where she keeps them.

Description

Still bearing the scars of her awakening, Storm puts on a front as a brave and aggressive grunt of a marine. She pushes herself hard and expects those around her to have done the same, and makes an oddly stubborn point of never learning enough starship engineering to help manage her crew's equipment or her own cruiser-scale implants. She owns no clothes besides her uniform and she goes fully by her hull's name in place of any name of hers.   While her marine persona appears to constitute her entire personality, Storm also feels compelled to try to find a life underneath it and can sometimes be found working on her mediocre cooking skills or planning the best shore leave options for her troops. Stopping to think is not in her best interest at the moment.   Not quite ready to be (or feeling safe as) a complete loner, Storm has forged a friendship with fellow work addict Anya and for a time they found rare chances to relax and be simply people together. The advent and steady growth of the Hurricane Biofighters have also forced Storm to step up and face somethign approaching reality, and may eventually have some long term effect on her...   Storm is completely unfamiliar with Dryad technology, even more than Sestian engineering and practices, forcing her to find help for astromedical engineering matters far more than she'd like.
