Anya Val Seel Aden

An oddly principled mercenary

Currently a security consultant with the Void Walkers Project.

Appearance

Averagely tall and quite tan by most standards (though the Fennecs might disagree), Anya has an aura of relaxed and confident vigilance about her. As a baseline human, she has a build more visibly feminine than those of many of the Fennec women she grew up surrounded by. On top of that, as is pretty much required for people in her line of work, she is quite fit, resulting in a rather athletic aesthetic that compliments her natural curves.

She tends to wear clothes designed with practicality in mind, often slightly worn, but can sometimes be seen wearing garments derived from traditional Fennec attire, especially when she's not doing anything that has the potential to stain or damage her clothing. She rarely leaves her ship without her pair of unique heavy energy pistols and her battle-scarred instance of the milspec Ranger variant of the traditional Fennec heat-retaining cloak; though, as she's still a human, her instance has been modified to be a bit lighter thermally.

In battle, she wields a heavily customised pre-production Genkhar-model semi-powered recon armour, lacking most of the computerised motive prediction and assistance mechanisms newer variants are usually equipped with and instead tuned to interface more directly with the pilot, allowing a proficient implant-equipped user like Anya to connect with it on a much deeper level and achieve higher combat effectiveness. The armour bears marks of extensive use, but is nonetheless clearly in excellent shape, the superficial wear and tear only adding to the air of extreme reliability it exudes.

Description

Born on the Fennec homeworld of Rupee Quay to immigrants from one of the many fringe planets that the human empire had lost their grasp on, Anya is independently minded and has a rather external perspective on most things - with no love for the nation her parents fled and more scepticism about the one she grew up in than a native would be inclined to have, she has a habit of seeking out information from multiple independent sources before making any significant decisions, be it about herself and her gear or about a situation encountered at work. In spite of this, however, she has a great deal of trust and loyalty towards those she considers friends and those under her care, willing to go to great lengths to ensure their safety and prosperity, even at considerable risk to herself.

Having grown up among Duner Rupeeans, she exhibits a fondness for sturdy and functional design, and having spent most of her life in barren areas where plant life and arable land were rare and highly valued, she has some pretty strong feelings about collateral damage and long-term pollution resulting from weapons fire. Furthermore, the duality of her upbringing - Terran roots but Rupeean culture – has, especially in light of recent events, caused her to adopt a very forgiving and compassionate approach, seeking to resolve conflict with no harm to either party before resorting to combat, and even then attempting to take down most of her foes non-lethally if at all possible. This does not mean she is unwilling or unable to wound or kill, however; she merely prefers not to do so unless it is strictly necessary… or unless she considers somebody unworthy of that treatment.

In spite of all this, as an adult she has made a habit of earning a living as a glorified gun for hire, occasionally taking smuggling jobs on the side, her level of skill offset by her values, as they make hiring Anya rather risky - there have been cases of her breaking or turning down quite lucrative contracts simply due to the fact that what they required of her was in direct conflict with her values and beliefs.

In recent times, she has been gainfully though covertly employed by the Void Walkers Project as a security consultant, accumulating a team of her own over the course of her stay with them, and making a difference in her own ways with their help, operating in equal measure from the Project's headquarters and from aboard her personal vessel, the Valkyrie, her unusual practices earning her a bit of an urban legend status in some Terran territories, the full impact of which on her proceedings still remains to be seen.
