Ooze Zombie

The Ooze Zonbie is one of a number of unpleasant undead/slime/fungus abominations birthed from Juiblex’ claim on Orcus’ portfolio, the undead. All of the monsters conform to more or less the same stats, but with different skins and flavor text - Green Slime, Brown Mold vomited in liquid projectile form - but even projectile vomiting is a melee, not ranged, attack - or Worms, with the worm variety covered in the standard canon under ‘Spawn of Kyuss’.

Corrode Metal. Any nonmagical weapon made of metal that hits the ooze zombie corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to −5, the weapon is destroyed. Nonmagical ammunition made of metal that hits the ooze zombie is destroyed after dealing damage. As an action, the ooze zombie's touch can eat through nonmagical metal up to 2 inches thick per round.   Undead Ooze Fortitude. If damage reduces the ooze zombie to 0 or fewer hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken past HP 0, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the ooze zombie drops to 1 hit point instead.


Actions

Acidic Grapple: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 acid damage, and the target is grappled. if the target is wearing nonmagical metal armor, its armor is partly corroded and takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to the AC it offers. The armor is destroyed if the penalty reduces its AC to 10. As an action, the target may attempt a DC 12 STR check to escape the grapple on its turn.   Psuedopod: Automatically hits a grappled opponent. Hit: 1d6+1 bludgeoning damage plus 2d6 acid damage, and if the target is wearing nonmagical metal armor, its armor is partly corroded and takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to the AC it offers. The armor is destroyed if the penalty reduces its AC to 10.

Reactions

As a reaction, when the zombie loses more than half its hit points from a melee attack, up to and including a fatal attack, the ooze essence within it can explode out of its guts and coat all creatures within 5' who fail a DC16 DEX save with burning acid for an additional 2d6 acid damage per round until the acid is negated or cured by magical healing or bless. A creature dying in this manner will rise in 1d4+4 rounds as an ooze zombie. This reaction is only available one time per ooze zombie, but if it passes its undead fortitude check it may continue to fight normally.


 

The Ooze Zombie is the baseline monster reflective of Juiblex' assimilation of Orcus' portfolio. Externally indistinguishable from a normal zombie other than a heavier weight and tread than a normal zombie it's size, its innards have been liquified and infused with a Gray Ooze, giving the zombie increased resistances and attacks, and putting an opponent in danger of suffering damage in the event of a melee attack that opens the stomach. At the same time the ooze inherits the zombie's resilience and propensity for getting up after an otherwise fatal blow.
