Peldor

I spoke to an old Cuendish women, one of the last of her line to live here in the city. She told me that the city is old, as old as the sea, and that it deserves the same respect. I can only hope that we, when we paved the mud over with cobblestone and lit the torches by the docks, were worthy of this old woman's wishes. I can only hope that, by telling her story, that I am showing her the respect she deserves.

—Artemin, The Longest Journey

Peldor is a capital and most populous city in the kingdom of Boreath. Located along the northwest coast, Peldor is a major center of maritime trade for northern Cuendar. In fact, Peldor is the nexus of trade between Vindar and Cuendar. It is also the home port of many fishing and whaling vessels, who often come sell their catches at the Dockside Market.

She had not been two weeks from shore / When down on her a right whale bore / The captain called all hands and swore / He’d take that whale in tow.

Before the boat had hit the water / The whale’s tail came up and caught her / All hands to the side, harpooned and fought her / When she dived down below.

No line was cut, no whale was freed / The captain’s mind was not of greed / But he belonged to the whaleman’s creed / She took the ship in tow.

Demographics

Peldor's population is fairly diverse. Elves and half-elves who crossed over Emperor's Wall are a common sight in most parts of the city. The humans who live in Peldor come from all corners of the world. Vindari people are especially common in Whale Town, and smaller Ilic enclaves can also be found in various parts of the city. The most common language spoken in Peldor is Trade Common, with Mariscine and Vindari not far behind.
