Far Harbor

On the coast of Ultan, you see a low-laid city.   Overturned, kneaded like tough bread, the city is thriving, bustling, but every piece of architecture and permanence seems hesitant, shored up against an unseen foe waiting to speak devastation.   You've heard the tales: the city built a thousand times. You can see why. Hell, you can feel why. Passing the walls almost lends an aura to your head, circling around, like a pixie just out of eyesight.   Your feet take you through the stocky streets lined with roofs held up by bear-like timbers. Red and thick, angled just so, they'll outlive you.   And then you see it. Opening before you as you nearly squeeze through an ally between two massive alehouses is the harbor itself. Reaching out to the sea its artificial landmasses hug the water like a toddler trying in vain to wrap his arms around his father. Artificial barges float just off shore, layered four deep in the ocean, housing over a hundred caravels of all shapes and sizes, from all lands and regions, their hulls protected by the outstretched terrain that breaks wave after unrelenting wave upon its shores.   One day this city will fall again, and man, in his ignorance, will try for the one thousand and first time to exert his hubris. But now that you've seen the marvel for yourself, you're not convinced that the effort would be such a waste after all.

Demographics

The working class is the class of Far Harbor. Resistant to the rich, who prefer their property to be a permanent investment, Far Harbor has found security in the council of business merchants who make up its core constituency and supports the city's grand size.

Infrastructure

Far Harbor is a squat town, no building rising over two stores high. The road system is narrow in all but the main drag that leads in a straight line from the harbor straight out the South Gate. This artery is over six carts wide, and the clopping of hooves and rattle of poorly-fitted axels echo off the backs of nearby businesses all through the day and night.
